Gemma Ray in der mit ca. 100 Zuhörern relativ gut besuchten Manufaktur in Schorndorf.
Begleitet wurde sie von Fredrik Kinbom am elektrischen Bass und der – teilweise elektronisch verfremdeten – Lap Steel-Gitarre und Andrew Zammit an den Drums und den Keyboards incl. Synthesizer. Das ergibt zusammen ein sehr vielseitiges und oft von Song zu Song wechselndes Instrumentarium, das diese Mischung aus Gitarren-Twang, Retro-Rock, Surfpop und Blues-Anleihen mit diesen dunkel rollenden Beats so interessant macht. Insgesamt toller Sound mit bewußt sehr viel Hall auf Instrumenten und Stimme.
Highlight des Konzertes war für mich das sehr reduzierte, bluesige und spookige „Swampsnake“, wo der tolle Gitarrensound und Gemma Rays Stimme im Mittelpunkt standen.
Als Cover gab’s ein schönes, sehr langsames und zerdehntes „How Long Blues“ von Leroy Carr.

God told me to do it.Jup, das mit den ****1/2 für KC in HH kann ich gut nachvollziehen. War eine faszinierende Combo. Komme gerade erst vom Nachtreffen aus der Klimperkiste heim, muss in zweieinhalb Stunden wieder raus. Hat sich aber richtig gelohnt.

Ja, ein großartiges Konzert gestern, das erste Set war fast makellos. Die Besetzung ist auf jeden Fall die beste seit 1975. Live war das alles noch beeindruckender als auf den drei Live-Alben.

Der Songwriter Tom Brosseau aus Grand Forks/North Dakota in der leider nur schwach besuchten Manufaktur in Schorndorf.
Seine Folksongs sind großteils tiefenentspannt und klingen sehr zeitlos, thematisch oft autobiographisch um die Themen Heimat, Erinnerungen und Liebe kreisend.
Tolle, kristallklare Stimme, die dennoch warm und unendlich sanft klingt, mit einer schönen Portion Wehmut im Hintergrund.
Als Covers gab es „My Texas Girl“ von der Carter Family, das das Konzert eröffnete, ein grandioses „Rope Stretchin‘ Blues“ von Blind Blake, ein weniger überzeugendes „You Win Again“ von Hank Williams und ein wiederum sehr schönes „I’ve Got the Big River Blues“ von den Delmore Brothers.
