gypsy-tail-windHm, von der Timeline her müsste das ja eindeutig Butch Warren sein? Ore war zuletzt Ende März dabei, danach (u.a. Japan und Newport mit Pee Wee Russell) war Warren am Bass – die Info bei Storyville ist vermutlich also falsch. Aber der Bass ist hier klasse – gute Soli und obendrein wuchtig und zugleich wortkarg, genau wie es bei Monk sein muss.
Es ist John Ore – nachdem Butch Warren in Tokyo und Newport (Pee Wee Russell !) sein erstes Intermezzo gab – welcher im September in Monterey und November @ Village Gate (Xanadu) spielte …. ab Ende 1963 aka Quartet/Tentet bis Ende 3tes Quartal 1964 dann wieder ButchWarren, bevor Larry Gales übernahm ….

Hab die Bücher in Wien …. aber geistig bei mir so „eingebucht“ wie beschrieben …. hmmmh ….
Edit : lese das eben mit dem „eye witness“ …. interessant …. aber ich hätte bei diesem wuchtigen Spiel sicher auf John Ore gesetzt ….Ich eben auch, war sehr überrascht, dann doch überall (ausser auf der CD, da steht Ore) den Namen von Warren zu lesen.

Bei aller Wertschätzung für Kelley – und die ist nicht gering – aber auch meine Ohren bleiben wohl dabei was sie hören und das ist John Ore

Every single link you will find here and elsewhere on the Internet repeat the mistake that is on the album itself. The bassist was Butch Warren, not John Ore. Really, this is very evident if you just listen to it. Ore was a fine solid player, but he was not as supple and imaginative, especially in solos, as Warren, and Warren has a playful side–very enjoyably, he will play the melodies of Monk’s compositions within his solos on the pieces–as well as a sound of his own. Ore had left the group early in 1963 and Warren came in on „Monk in Tokyo“ (not fully in the form heard here yet). At Newport in June he’s very much as he is here–compare „Light Blue“ played at both Newport and Monterey (and in Lincoln Center Big Band Concert when Warren was still in the band); interplay between Monk and Warren, as well as Warren’s solo, are very similar all three times. So I assure everyone here that you must ignore the personnel listing (Monk, Rouse and Dunlop are correctly identified though!) and that it’s Butch Warren on bass.

Mir würde jetzt ehrlich gesagt zu Butch Warren nicht „supple and imaginative“ einfallen ….
Edit : In Monterey 1964 ist dann Steve Swallow eingesprungen, auf welchen diese Attribute wohl eher zutreffen würden ….

….…..und damit dann hoffentlich das Forum für unsere Lebensspanne offen
aus deinen Aussagen entnehme ich, dass du es als Vinyl gekauft hast und nicht so weit weg von mir wohnst. Adresse bitte, damit ich weiß wo ich einsteigen muss! Neid kommt auf, schaue in jedem Plattenladen den ich betrete danach, bisher kein Glück und über discogs zu teuer und teilweise obskure Anbieter…. glücklicher Mensch, ich hab leider nur die CD….

Hat Zappa und Bob Marley noch live erlebt!Zu spät @vorgarten. Das Internet ist zu Ende gespielt: Es fand eine Zoom-Konferenz mit LaMonte Young statt. Es gibt kein nächstes Level mehr!
(In die fef-Geschichte mag ich mich übrigens nicht nochmal einlesen, hab nur heute Morgen auf dem Handy durchgescrollt, das reichte mir mehr als …)

höre gerade und nun endlich auch auf Vinyl Jackie McLeans bestes Album
wie ich finde
und ab dem 14.02. ist eins der schönsten Joe Henderson Alben auch wieder auf Vinyl zu haben
aber da erzähl ich hier wohl nichts neues!
