The Allman Brothers Band Announces the Release of
Their 15 show 2009 Beacon Theatre Run

To commemorate their 40th anniversary, The Allman Brothers Band is releasing a Beacon Box live CD package, capturing all 15 sold-out shows from the group’s recent March stand at the venerable Beacon Theatre in New York City. This is the first time the band has made CDs available from their annual visits to New York, which date back to 1989 and includes 188 consecutive sold-out shows at the Beacon.

This run was dedicated to the memory of Duane Allman, seminal guitarist and founder of the band, and to help celebrate Duane’s legacy, 60 special guests shared the stage with the Allman Brothers Band. The list includes a “Who’s Who” of rock, jazz and jams greats, including Levon Helm, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Johnny Winter, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Herring, John Bell, Stanley Clarke, Kid Rock, Bonnie Bramlett, Robert Randolph, John Hammond, Billy Gibbons, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Jerry Jammott, Bernard Purdie, Jimmy Smith, Chuck Leavell, Jimmy Hall, Susan Tedeschi, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and many others. Also appearing for two nights with the band was the inimitable Eric Clapton, who teamed with Duane Allman to record Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs in 1970; considered by many critics to be the finest guitar album of all time. This marked the first time Clapton had played with the Allman Brothers Band in a public setting.
The fact that the band performed at its considerable best in its 40th year is a remarkable testament to the talents of America’s finest live performance group, and all the magic of timeless classics, newer tunes and spectacular cover songs shines through on the Beacon Box live CD package. The 15 historical shows will be packaged in a custom-made, hand-crafted box, made to look like the Beacon Theatre’s marquee. In addition to the Beacon concerts, this box set will include a special bonus performance of the Allman Brothers Band at Warren Haynes’ 20th annual Christmas Jam which occurred in December of 2008. Also included in the box set will be 40 exclusive photos taken during the run by ABB Tour Mystic, Kirk West. Als Neuling mal eine Frage: wenn ich mir die Fillmore Aufnahmen von März/Juni 1971 anhöre, spielt Duane Allman links und Dickey Betts auf dem rechten Kanal?

Und oft ist dabei richtig Hand angelegt worden. Richtig getrennt sind
die Kanäle wohl nur auf der DTS-Ausgabe, vgl.

In 1998 a 5.1 DTS mix of the original version was released with Duane Allman
in the left rear channel, Dickey Betts in the right rear channel, Jai Johanny
Johanson in the front left channel, Butch Trucks in the right front channel

center channels.

Ich habe die Doppel LP und die Deluxe edition als Doppel CD.

Mir geht es ja nur darum, ob bei der normalen Stereoeinspielung (und das sind ja sowohl die LP als auch die 3 CD Varianten) Duane Allman links und Betts rechts zu hören sind.

Inzwischen bin ich mir fast schon sicher, daß es so sein muß, weil bei den 1970er Livemitschnitten von You Tube, Duane links steht und bei „Whipping Post“ fast dasselbe Solo spielt, wie auf der „Fillmore“ CD/LP.

@krautathaus: Danke für den Youtube Link!! Ich wusste gar nicht das es Filmaufnahmen der Fillmore Konzerte gibt. Sehr cool. Laut Scott Freemans „Midnight Riders – the story of the Allman Brothers Band“, soll es ja kaum Filmaufnahmen mit Duane Allman geben…

@wolfgang123: Die ABB sind ohne Dickey Betts sicher eine ganz andere Band. Das sie „nichts“ sind kann man so wohl nicht sagen. Besonders wenn man so grottenschlechte Mitt-70er Aufnahmen berücksichtigt die auf obskuren Videobändern kursieren. Leider habe ich den Namen des Bandes vergessen (habe es aus Respekt vor der Band verbrannt). Übrigens konnte mich Dickey Betts auch bei seinem Konzert in Hamburg vor 1 oder 2 Jahren nicht überzeugen. Das Konzert war zwar ok, aber definitiv nicht mehr. Die alten Fillmore Aufnahmen sind natürlich heilig

Und bevor ihr euch alle doch noch dafür entscheidet ein Flugzeug in Richtung Beacon Theatre zu chartern… es gibt zwei Gründe die dagegen sprechen:
1. Findet der jährliche Beacon-Run nicht mehr im Beacon Theatre statt. Die genauen Gründe kenne ich nicht. Hat was mit der Verfügbarkeit des Beacon zu tun.
2. Gibt es ja das Wanee Festival: http://www.waneefestival.com. Das ist wirklich der Himmel auf Erden für alle ABB Fans!! Zwei Abende die Allman Brothers nahe ihrer Heimat plus allerlei großartige Bands aus deren Dunstkreis die den Besucher des Nachmittags mit Musik vom Feinsten versorgen. Z.B. Gov’t Mule, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedesci, Drive-by Truckers, Little Feat, Doobie Brothers, Galactic, Robert Randolph, kurz: alle Bands über die das Musik-Magazin unserer Wahl niemals schreiben würde :roll:
Ich war dieses Jahr zum zweiten Mal dort und es hat mich trotz bescheidenen Wetters umgehauen. Mal gucken was 2010 so bringt…

ALLMAN BROTHERS @ THE UNITED PALACE IN NYC

In what has become a rite of passage and annual destination for fans of the Allman Brothers Band, the iconic and revered group will return to New York City in March 2010 for a lengthy residency beginning March 11, with eight shows confirmed (March 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20), just as they have since 1989. 2010 marks a change of venue for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group: they¹re taking their act uptown to the 3200-capacity United Palace Theatre (formerly known as the 175th Street Theatre) in lieu of the Beacon Theatre which is unable to host the ABB due to a 2010 scheduling conflict. Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, January 15 via www.ticketmaster.com.

Vielen Dank für die Links!
Warst du bei dem Konzert? „Kind of Bird“ hätte ich ja wirklich gerne mal live gehört. Scheint als hätten die ABB den song wirklich selten gespielt. Auf meinen diversen „Instant Live“ CDs ist der Song jedenfalls nicht vertreten :o(

Die Allmänner werden IMO ja immer dann besonders interessant (bezogen auf die Besetzung des letzten Jahrzehnts), wenn sie Gäste auf der Bühne haben oder fremde Songs ins Programm nehmen (z.B. Walk on gilded Splinters). So wurde am 14.März 2009 im Beacon Theatre mein Favorit „Dreams“ mit Randy Becker an der Trompete gespielt. Totaler Wahnsinn!! :dance:
Das gesamte Konzert war btw sehr „jazzig“ mit einer Version von „In a silent way“ und einem Bass-Duell zwischen Oteil und Stanley Clarke. Eines der besten Konzerte die ich bislang gehört habe!

Und nur noch 5 Wochen bis zum Wanee Festival! Freu mich schon auf Widespread panic und Derek/Susan… :band:
Fliegt noch jemand über den Teich zum Festival?? Dann könnten wir da drüben ein Bierchen trinken und f(l)achsimpeln…

Allmans – Tribut – Band

Seit einigen Jahren habe ich eine spannende Vision. Ursprung dieser Idee ist die Tatsache, dass die Allman Brothers Band wahrscheinlich nicht mehr nach Europa kommen wird. „Wir können doch aber nicht ganz auf die wunderbare Musik dieser Band verzichten“, sagen mir oft und auf vielen Konzerten die Fans dieser Musik.

Wie wäre es, wenn wir gemeinsam eine Allmans – Tribut – Band zusammenbringen, die aus verschiedensten Musikern (Europa´s) zusammengestellt wird? Mein Part wäre die Organisation und teilweise die Produktion dieses musikalischen Vorhabens.

Wer Vorschläge hat, sendet bitte den Namen seines Wunsch – Musikers, den Link zu seiner aktuellen Band und beschreibt kurz, warum dieser Musiker in dem Allmans – Tribut mitwirken sollte. Natürlich können und sollen sich auch Musiker selbständig bewerben.
