Bald schon.
This book is dedicated to the history of the music label Free Music Production (FMP), which from 1968 to 2010 achieved incomparable things as a Berlin platform for the production, presentation and documentation of music and decisively shaped the musical development of the ’70s and beyond. Based on many conversations from over thirty years with key protagonists such as Peter Brötzmann or Jost Gebers, Markus Müller tells the success story of a musicians‘ initiative that emerged in the context of the 1968 ideas of self-organization and self-determination and worked successfully in an international network for over 40 years. Thematic focal points include the Total Music Meeting and the Workshop Freie Musik, the production of recordings, relations with GDR musicians, FMP and women, the internationally groundbreaking collaboration with Cecil Taylor. The book builds on the major FMP exhibitions in Munich and Berlin, but in many aspects goes far beyond them. Thanks to unrestricted access to the FMP-Publishing Archive in Borken, many first-published documents and photographs from the history of FMP can be found. 400 pages, attention – over 2 kg – has to ship as a parcel (expensive shipping costs) overseas customers – corbett vs dempsey will carry the book as well!
Das Buch ist jetzt ja erhältlich. Eine sehr schöne großformatige Entdeckungsreise und eine tolle Ergänzung zur FOR EXAMPLE-WORKSHOP-Box. Lesenswert auch das Kapitel über die Zusammenarbeit mit Cecil Taylor (also hauptsächlich geht es da um Cecil Taylor).

Ich hab meins gestern in der Buchhandlung abgeholt … ein Schnäppchen, ich hatte mich nicht auf Seitenzahl/Format geachtet und war überrascht, dass das so ein grosser Band geworden ist! Hab ja die Ausstellung in München gesehen und Fazit war damals: toll, aber in Buchform wär’s noch schöner.

das kann ich nur unterstreichen, man kriegt hier fuer echt nicht viel Geld ziemlich viel Buch – physisch duerfte das eins meiner zwei, drei groessten Buecher sein… und vom Format her macht ein Buch hier in der Tat mehr Sinn als die Ausstellung damals in Muenchen…

Zwischenzeitlich höre ich vor allem Doldinger aus der Zeit vor Passport ganz gerne. Seine Passport-Alben sind teilweise nicht so überzeugend, dass ich keines mit mind. 4 Sternen bewerten kann oder ich habe die meisten davon noch nicht so intensiv gehört, dass es gefunkt hat. Es gibt aber tatsächlich auch einige Höhepunkte
Spätestens nach der Lektüre des Buches werde ich mich mal intensiver mit Passport befassen.

Ayler synthesized children’s songs, La Marseillaise, American march music, and gospel hymns, turning them into powerful, rambunctious, squalling free-jazz improvisations. ~ John SzwedRichard Koloda has a master’s degree in Musicology from Cleveland State University (having written a thesis on the piano music of Frederic Rzewski). He was a contributor to the critically acclaimed documentary My Name Is Albert Ayler by Swedish filmmaker Kasper Collin and was a consultant on Revenant Records‘ ten-CD retrospective of Ayler, which has been called ‚the Sistine Chapel of box sets‘. Richard lives in Wayland, Ohio, where he practices law. When he is not in court, he is working on his second book (not about music).
