Alice Coltrane und Butch Morris …. Photograph und Umstände (mir) unbekannt ….
--
"Kunst ist schön, macht aber viel Arbeit" (K. Valentin)danke! umstand dürfte dieser hier gewesen sein (nyt vom 25.9.1987):
TWENTY years after John Coltrane’s death, his music continues to attract new listeners and make new converts. “His music showed us that it’s possible to perceive wider vistas, to reach higher plateaus in music,“ Alice Coltrane said recently, before beginning rehearsals for a concert tomorrow evening at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
Mrs. Coltrane was the saxophonist’s wife and the pianist in his band during the last years of his life. She will be playing her own music on organ, harp and piano, with an improvising string section under the direction of Butch Morris and a number of guest artists. The 8 P.M. concert at the cathedral, Amsterdam Avenue at 112th Street, is being called “The Spiritual Legacy: Featuring the Music of Alice and John Coltrane.“
(…)
Mrs. Coltrane said tomorrow night’s concert would be a mixture of her own music, including material with strings that she recorded for Impulse and Warner Brothers in the 60’s and 70’s, and Coltrane’s music. The musicians playing with Mrs. Coltrane will include Reggie Workman, a bassist who worked extensively with Coltrane’s mid-60’s quartet, and Mr. Ali, the drummer in the mid-60’s band that included John and Alice Coltrane. Billy Bang and Jason Hwang, violinists, and Abdul Wadud, a cellist, are to perform as members of the 16-piece string section. Several saxophonists are expected to join Mrs. Coltrane’s trio to play some of Coltrane’s compositions, including Frank Lowe, Dewey Redman, Arthur Rhames and one of the Coltranes‘ sons, Oran Coltrane, who plays the alto saxophone. Reggie Workman’s quartet, with Marilyn Crispell, a pianist, Andrew Cyrille, a drummer, and Oliver Lake, an alto saxophonist, is also expected to play a set.

"Kunst ist schön, macht aber viel Arbeit" (K. Valentin)„Abdul Wadud, a cellist“ … und heute erwartet man von uns, dass wir die Kardashians kennen (und, ähm, ihre gigantischen Verdienste) – also: das „a“ müsste fehlen!
Danke für Foto und Kontext – wunderbar bzw. interessant!
