Werbungich hatte zu dem Thema ein bisschen durch die alten Zeitungen geguckt – mein Eindruck war, dass Sheila Jordan und vor allem diese andere Saengerin Nancy Steele, die auf dem Label aktiv war, zu der Zeit schlicht extrem gut vernetzt waren, weswegen man nicht so leicht was sagen kann… Ronnie Ball trat zB auch in dem Jazzclub auf, den Steele in den 60ern hatte, genau wie ganz viele andere Leute… und auch von Jordan findet man Konzerte mit verschiedenen Bands angekuendigt, Jack Reilly taucht zB oefter auf, neben vielen Namen, die mir nichts sagten…

These previously unreleased recordings that make up this album are from March and August of 1962 from Danish Radio Concert Hall and Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen. However battered mentally and physically the man was, here’s the clear evidence of his genius, more intact than generally believed.

Was könnte man noch dazu nehmen?Ist ein Reissue und gehört daher in den anderen Faden, aber kennt denn jemand „Piano Solo“ von Tommy Flanagan, 1974 in Zürich aufgenommen und bei Storyville kürzlich neu aufgelegt? @soulpope oder @lotterlotta vielleicht?
Ansonsten hier on topic z.B. Barney Wilen (wobei das auch ein Reissue aber mit Bonus-Live-CD ist), Harold Land („Westward Bound!“), Roy Brooks („Understanding“), Dexter Gordon (Willisau 1978) – oder auch neu – die erste (hoffentlich!) halbwegs offizielle Ausgabe von Ellington in Berlin 1959:

Oder die erweiterte Ausgabe von Mingus in der Carnegie Hall 1974 (wie die Wilen ein Fall von Reissue mit – in diesem Fall noch substantiellerem – Anteil an Bonustracks), die für meine Ohren durch die neuen Tracks aus einem mittelmässigen ein richtig tolles (Doppel-)Album macht.

jazz detective A SUPREME DISCOVERY! George Klabin and I have been involved in some major tape discoveries over the years at Resonance, but this one probably takes the cake over them all. Several years back, my good friend at the Coltrane House of Osaka, Japan, Yasuhiro Fujioka, introduced me to the film producer Kiku Lani Iwata who was working on the 2017 „Chasing Trane“ documentary. Kiku put us in touch with saxophonist Steve Griggs, who introduced us to Virginia Brazil, widow of saxophonist Joe Brazil – who was a friend of Coltrane’s and recorded him at the Penthouse. After a number of meetings Resonance was able to strike a deal to acquire tapes of John Coltrane performing the entire „A Love Supreme“ suite live at the Penthouse jazz club in Seattle, WA on October 2, 1965. We were fortunate to have been able to acquire these important tapes to make sure they stayed out of the wrong hands, and safely into the hands of the good folks at Verve Label Group/Impulse! George and I want to thank Ken Druker, Jamie Krents and everyone at the label for allowing us to be co-producers on this incredible journey. Thanks also to Ashley Kahn, Steve Griggs, Lewis Porter, Charlie Puzzo Jr., Yasuhiro Fujioka, Kiku Lani Iwata and everyone else who helped make this project happen. Available October 8

Septet Frans Elsen featuring Piet Noordijk in Norwayhatte ich mich neulich beschwert, dass es nicht genug von Frans Elsen gibt? Bestimmt… und schon kommt was neues auf den Markt, Nederlands Jazzarchief, Funk Jazz von 1970-72… was immer das genau heisst (ich stell mir sowas wie Placebo vor). Neben Elsen (Klavier und wahrscheinlich Fender Rhodes wie auf dem Cover abgebildet) und Piet Noordijk (as, vermutlich) erwaehnt der press release Eddie Engels (tp), Ferdinand Povel (ts), Wim Overgaauw (g), Rob Langereis (b), Victor Kaihatu (b), Eric Ineke (dr) & Wim van der Beek (perc?) … vermutlich nicht alle gleichzeitig, sonst waer es kein Septett … es sind wohl drei Auftritte auf der CD zu hoeren, teilweise auch in Sextettbesetzung… fuer mich vor allem wegen Wim Overgaauw wohl ein Pflichtkauf.
