Carl Barat’s new band may be forced to change their name, after it was claimed there is already a group in the UK called „Dirty Pretty Things“.
The original Dirty Pretty Things, a four-piece from Shrewsbury, have been playing under the moniker since January and have insisted they are determined to retain the moniker.
Former Libertine Barat announced his new band’s name last week, having named them after his London club night.
The original Dirty Pretty Things claim they have copyrighted the name in the UK, which, if true, may lead to that legal negotiations with Barat’s label Vertigo.
UK website gigwise.co.uk report they have spoken to Vertigo’s legal department, who say that Barat and his manager have been notified of the name clash.
Barat has also announced plans to stage a Dirty Pretty Things club night in London, to be held at Koko on October 22. Speculation is rife that the night will play host to the first gig from Barat’s new band
