hi prince,

This entire purge(ing) was spun in Harvey’s living room, guest bedroom and porch….and mostly sung slouched on the couch. Jessica assisted above and beyond. Harv never recorded an album before and did so nicely. Some overture stuff was recorded by Howe with those microphone earplugs (thanx Sabine Gietzelt for the healthy hunch) at John’s and Howe’s in the corridor, Barrio Viejo. All was concieved, mustered and forgotten in Tucson during the summer of ’93. Slight intentional reference to Lisa Germano’s song „Bad Attitude“ in „Swamp Thing“.

Listen. The air in the room took precedence. Lyrics were just luggage. Should have been wordless. Instead it got sputtered on. We thought we would run with Metal Machine Music Volume II…. but instead an immensely quiet record took place…. waking blankly. Pictured here in the insert (not) is a black and white shot of two Octavia pedals (those flying saucer things) I used with the new $50.00 supro git. John mostly held a brush in one hand and a stick in the other while he shadowed the drums. (A fine cross of feathering wisp and urk of a Louisville slugger.) I can’t imagine a 13½ minute blues drench without ol‘ Mark Walton. (Now we never have to do that again). And Malcolm swung by to liquify the clotted grooves. Joey and Paula retain their master status. Rainer and Neil were as slippery as ever. Al and Loren kicked this pup off nicely. We loved the air in this thing and we won’t be playing it live ‚cause it was only for when it was Whenever. (The next record will be severely shorter.)
I don’t know what we did here, ‚cept purge and slouch.

but I did not.
