Die „Diggin‘ – Live at Dug, Tokyo“ von Mangelsdorff ist auch ganz gut … aber da fehlt mit Kronberg die für mich nebem den Leader betörendste Stimme des Quintetts und der Spirit ist ein anderer, viel freier, viel mehr blowing, weniger Struktur. Für mich liegt der Zauber der ersten beiden Quintett-Alben gerade darin, wie Freiheit und Form kombiniert werden, wie Mangelsdorff Wege findet, in verschiedenen Formen, die die Musiker nicht einengen sondern geradezu beflügeln. Zudem schöpft er aus Quellen, die das ganze zu einer wirklich eigenständigen Sache machen und das fasziniert mich wohl noch mehr. Da wird nicht einfach nur amerikanischer Jazz nachgespielt, der Blick auf die Materie ist ein anderer … schön übrigens, dass Napo hier auch an Bord ist, in alten Threads hier findet man ja massenhaft dümmliche Ressentiments gegenüber europäischem Jazz (da wird der West Coast Jazz auch schon fast mitzugezählt, ist ja auch „weiss“ und so …)
Nein im ernst jetzt! Es gab schon vor den Wuppertalern und anderen Maschmusikfreaks eigenständigen Jazz aus Europa, und daneben gab es auch bei den deutlicher an die USA anglehnten Leuten einiges tolles zu hören. Mangelsdorff sticht da auf jeden Fall weit heraus, ein unglaublich kreativer und sehr eigenständiger Musiker.Hier läuft heute morgen folklore imaginaire:

Inspiriert von pinchs Komeda-Gängen … funky Sounds im Geiste der Jazz Crusaders aus Polen, 1973 mit zwei Saxophonen (leader Zbigniew Jaremko an Tenor und Sopran, Henryk Miskiewicz am Alt) sowie Rhythmusgruppe (Pawel Perlinski am Piano und E-Piano, Marian Komar am Bass, Zbigniew Kitlinksi am Schlagzeug) sowie dem Gast Jozef Gawrych (Percussion). Tolle Scheibe!
Das ist kein schrecklicher Jazz-Rock, wie es ihn in Polen ab der Stange zu kaufen gab, sondern eine wirklich feine, groovende Scheibe einer tollen Band. Leider in suboptimalem Sound (auch das ein Vinyl-Rip eines Freundes, der sich die LP ergattern konnte), aber egal, das schmälert den Spass nicht.

Das lässt sich nicht gut an, nein, sondern phantastisch! Barker ist ein Mann, dem ich schon in den späten Neunzigern mal nachgehen wollte … aber erst heute lag die erste CD von ihm im Briefkasten, das Ablum „Soundtrack“ von 2002 (rec. 2001). Zu hören sind neben ihm an der Trompete die Saxophonisten Rosario Giuliani und Denys Baptiste, der Posaunist Barnaby Dickinson, Jim Watson an Piano und Hammond Orgel, Orlando Le Fleming am Bass und Debastiaan de Krom am Schlagzeug. Ein Stück spielt Barker mit Bernardo Sassetti am Klavier im Duo, ein weiteres im Trio mit Geoff Gascoyne am Bass und de Krom.

Klasse, Gypsy! Und das Cover sieht auch cool aus. Ist dieses Exemplar aus der „Polish Jazz“-Reihe eigentlich auch nummeriert? Die „Astigmatic“ trägt bspw. die #5, Stankos „Musik for K“ die #22. Komedas Studioplatte habe ich als Vinylreissue von 1989 vorliegen, die Stanko aber ist ein Muza-Original von 1970. Diese Etikettierung und Nummerierung fand also schon bei den Erstauflagen statt und ist nicht etwa als nachträgliche Orientierungshilfe gedacht gewesen. Mich würden ja die anderen Nummern und Künstler/Bands aus der „Polish Jazz“-Serie sehr interessieren. Hat irgendwer einen Tipp, wo man vielleicht die komplette Liste einsehen kann?

Ja, Vol. 34. Wo man die ganze Reihe einsehen kann, keine Ahnung … bei Power Bros. liess man solche Angaben ja auf den hässlichen neuen Covern öfter gleich ganz weg.

Das ging also wenigstens bis in die frühen Achtziger … aber es gibt da auch einigen Fusion-Dreck, der wohl in manchen Kreisen Kult ist, aber alles muss ich da gewiss nie haben!

Ein Surman-Album, ein McLaughlin-Album? Egal … eine schöne Fortsetzung von „Extrapolation“, lärmiger, weniger stringent, hymnischer vor allem von McLaughlin, wilder von Surman … eine der Scheiben, bei denen die fliessenden Grenzen zwischen Jazz-Rock und Free-Jazz klar werden. Ich höre aus dieser Box.

Großartig, Gypsy! Auf dich ist Verlass. Und klar, die Option discogs. Daran habe ich wegen der Nummern gar nicht gedacht. Vol. #46 („Kujaviak Goes Funky“) muss ich wohl allein schon des stylishen Covers wegen haben

Gut möglich. Denkbar wäre es jedenfalls, dass die Box aus diesen Volumes schöpft.
(Zur Info: es geht um die 6CD Box „Jazz in Poland / Anthology“, von der sich leider keine Bezugsquelle ermitteln lässt. Falls jemand mehr weiss, ich bin für jeden Tipp, jede Idee dankbar).

Die Cosmicsounds-Seite besuche ich wegen Dusko Goykovich hie und da, ist aber eine Weile her … die einzigen Polish Jazz LPs, die ich öfter kaufen könnte, sind späte, die mich nicht wirklich interessieren … die Kujawiak würd ich heute wohl nicht mehr stehen lassen, aber dafür ist es zu spät, den Laden gibt es nicht mal mehr, in dem ich sie anhören konnte.

Das Debut des Typen mit dem Haartopf, im August 1968 aufgenommen … leichtfüssig und hübsch, und natürlich mit Mik Osborne, Harry Miller, Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler, Harry Beckett, Paul Rutherford und anderen ein ganzer Haufen Crachs am Start.
