Hank Mobley & His All StarsUpdate aus der … gypsy tail windTop-100/200-Liste … die Diskrepanzen müsste ich mal in Ruhe durchgehen, die Placierungen sind nur so bis Top 20 oder 30 wirklich ausgeklügelt, dahinter wird’s etwas zufälliger, befürchte ich. Und als ich die Top-100 erstellte, hatte ich die Liste hier völlig vergessen und nicht berücksichtigt, obwohl sie doch ein schönes Stück Vorarbeit enthalten hätte. Aber in drei Jahren verändert sich natürlich sowieso das eine oder andere, etwas kommt neu hinzu, anderes fällt aus dem Blickfeld. MAIDEN VOYAGE drin hat, aber EMPYRIAN ISLANDS nicht. oder von ornette nur CHANGE OF THE CENTURY. würde ich das so machen, hätte ich wohl andere alben gewählt, bei byrd unbedingt FREE FORM z.b., von hubbard BREAKING POINT usw. (was aber überhaupt keinen kommentar zur liste darstellen soll.) 
 verrückt natürlich, dass A LOVE SUPREME fehlt – dafür aber das wohl freieste shorter-album drin ist.-- Die Kunst der Auswahl beim Erstellen einer Liste ist eben schwer und bei allen Auswahlkriterien letztendlich auch eine sehr subjektive Angelegenheit. Bin schon froh, dass mir die gelungen ist. Empyrian Islands hätte drin stehen können wie Inventions and Dimensions. The Soothsayer genauso. Und noch einmal acht Tranes. In einer tba Top 100 könnten wahrscheinlich sehr viele Alben in den top 50 stehen. Da sind es oft nur Nuancen. -- Bald in diesem Theater: - BtBs Top 100 Filme - Top 100 des BarockEmpyrean Isles. Ansonsten sehr schöne Liste, die gute Platzierung von Brilliant Corners finde ich erfreulich, die Abwesenheit von A Love Supreme überraschend. The Avant-Garde hat meiner Ansicht nach nichts unter den 1000 (oder 10.000) besten Jazz-Alben verloren. Das ist teilweise richtig mies. Hilfe, kann man da was falsch machen? Ich habe im letzten Jahr festgestellt, dass Coltrane mich unwahrscheinlich faszinieren und mitreißen kann – aber „A love supreme“ kommt einfach nicht ganz an mich ran, besonders der vierte Track. „Crescent“ hingegen wäre auch bei mir ganz, ganz vorn. Das „Coltrane“-Album auf der Eins war für mich überraschend – und dadurch ein Grund, es nun als Tagesabschluss zu hören. -- Ich habe zwar immer noch grosse Lücken, kenne aber mittlerweile doch Einiges. Ich habe mir Mühe mit der Liste gegeben, aber so ganz zufrieden bin ich mit ihr nicht nicht. Bei den meisten Alben bin ich mir schon sicher, dass sie in die Liste gehören, aber die Platzierung ist stark tagesformabhängig. 1. Miles Davis – Miles Smiles
