The Great Pop Supplement wrote:the great pop supplement is a tiny label run from home in london. putting out predominantly self distributed small run releases on all shapes and sizes of vinyl. (on extended pressings it must be said cargo muck in too). previous releases have seen 45s nut and bolted into 2 hard board squares, painted with black board paint then doodled on by the band, 6″ lathe cuts in hand embroidered pouches, 45s wrapped in colour ferris wheel posters, 6 pg booklet sleeves etc etc…Sehr gut ist „Up The Hill“ von The See See (sold out). Ansonsten kenne ich, bis auf die Pete Greenwood-45 (auch ausverkauft), noch nichts von dem Label. Bestellbar sind die VÖ direkt über die TGPS-Website.
Eine Übersicht über bisherige Releases gibt es hier und hier.

WerbungUpdate für 2008:
The Great Pop Supplement….here’s what to expect for 2008:-
up next (late april/early may) the first gps LP, by c joynes „the running board“ (200 numbered copies), a split jerusalem and the starbaskets / hush arbors 45 (a split col. wax- half green, half orange number), following that comes a fabulous jack rose and the black twig pickers 45, a woodcraft folk 12″, a dreams of tall buildings lathe cut triangle single, a jerusalem and the starbaskets lp, a melodie du kronk lp, and further 45s by mv+ee, directing hand and fingers x’d for something w/james blackshaw amongst others…
In diesen Tagen erscheinen drei neue 7″s:
gps38: CRAYON – A House Is Not A Horse
TGPSLeeds based three piece Crayon offer up what some longterm GPS devotees may see as a departure to it’s usual output.
sombre synth tones and military like drum rolls give way to an infectious, startling pop rush of a chorus. perfect pop in a nutshell. B side ‚milk‘ is a slow building, initially, glitchy electronic piece again with a cool pop sensibility as it’s underbelly that soon explodes…
a fabulous record and a band to keep yr eye out for. ace 2 piece sleeves with inserts galore – a hand numbered pressing of just 300 only.
gps36: TOM BAXENDALE – Her Ghost
TGPSbeautiful debut 45 from London singer songwriter Tom Baxendale. ace blend of alt country, folk and Americana, with an A side rush of acoustic guitar and mandolin recalling atmospheric odes to love and loss.
The B side lowers the tempo and is way more gentle, recalling perhaps, ‚gosdin brothers‘ era Gene Clark.
regular gigging partner to previous GPS debutant Pete Greenwood.
a pressing of 300 copies in gorgeously cool orange and green tracing paper booklets, again, not expected to sit around for long…gps35: REMOS – Third Ear EP
TGPSwonderful debut EP from Swedish, psychedelic folk mystics. three incredible, almost eerie tracks with a ‚late night, middle of the woods‘ feel, featuring fuzz sitar, zither as well as 6 and 12 string guitars…
brought to you by the guys partly responsible for the recent reissue of Swedish folk legend Joakim Skogsberg’s awesome ‚jola rota‘ album from 1971, providing you with a pointer to where these guys collective heads‘ lie.300 copies on 7″ vinyl only, given the usual GPS packaging treatment. not expected to hang around long…
Wunderbare Sleeves wieder. Die Tom Baxendale-45 habe ich mir bestellt.

just to say that they have a new single out- and it really is a beauty. gorgeous multi-coloured vinyl ltd to 150 copies- feat. fantastic demos by joy division and buzzcocks, in a nice 2 sided sleeve. the jd track especially is fantastic- a great demo for „no love lost“ with a nice kraut / more synth based intro than the original. looks and sounds great. overall theme is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the joint tour of ’79.

GPS64 The See See “Late Morning Lights” LP
Following four killer sold out, sought after 45s, London’s The See See release their wondrous debut full length on vinyl here through the Great Pop Supplement (home to their first 2 7”’s, with a CD release pencilled in shortly, on Dell’Orso).
12 stunning tunes recalling the west coast vibe of The Byrds and The Burritos in their pomp and the pioneering, country / rock fusion of the International Submarine Band.
Personally chosen by Jack White for support slot with The Raconteurs and openers for The Brian Jonestown Massacre, the album also features guest slots from The Olivia Tremor Control’s Bill Doss and Hush Arbors’ Keith Wood.
A dozen super tight, hazy sunshine pop songs make for an epic first full length. Think classic prime period Elektra label. Released in a numbered edition of 250 copies, don’t be slack now…

GPS63 Adam Leonard “Nature Recordings” LP
Promised for a long while now, November finally sees the release of this incredible album of rustic, very English, psych folk. Boasting not only the songwriting prowess of Adam Leonard and the playing of The Owl Service’ Steven Collins but the majestic presence of Pat Gubler (aka P.G Six) across this beguiling, charming album.
Drawing from a wide ranging, genre crossing mix of inspirations for the record, Adam quotes ‘69 Roy Harper, Tower Recordings and Klaus Schulze’ mighty “Irrlicht” album on Ohr, alongside a passing nod to Syd and Robyn Hitchcock (check out the killer take on “The Man Who Invented Himself”).
“Excellent … sublime … intriguing … ambitious … This is a curious little gem of an album and one that should delight the discerning listener, time and again.“ – Terrascope Online
Contractually agreed pressing of just 150 copies in numbered, pro-printed, psych forest sleeves! ….be quick….

The See See Nachpressung:
At huge risk of pissing some of you off, We (The See See and I) have decided to repress a further 250 copies of the LP. Several reasons, firstly that the band’s copies went in the first half hour of their first gig on a small tour of germany last week, second that they’re a bit miffed at having to fend off saddened punters who then see copies going for £25 already on eBay and third, that unlike people like Sonic Boom, Jack Rose, MV&EE etc, bands like The See See and Still Corners need copies of their records out there for promo as they try to secure a footing in the press and stuff and while we all love that limited vinyl that everyone’s after, this one even missed key people in the radio/press and stuff, that were promised copies…
So basically, there’ll be 250 more. Numbered again, but somewhere a little different so as to tell pressings apart. It might be nice to do them on orange wax but if this sends you all into Mike Tyson mode with me, yell now! I’ll do ‘em on black to pacify all original buyers if it helps maintain the peace!?!
[…]
(-Oh, and I sound defensive about doing this cos’ the mails I got from a handful of people after the Still Corners repress, jeez… Believe me, I get requests to repress so so often. I’ve only said yes twice ever!)

Sehr cool für die bisher leer Ausgegangenen, sowie Label und Band. Ich hoffe, meine Norman-Bestellung lässt nicht mehr all zu lange auf sich warten. Itchin‘ for a listen..
abu, wo kann man sich in den Newsletter eintragen? Habe auf der Label-Seite nichts gefunden. Auch Preisinfos etc. sind dort nicht angegeben. Funktioniert das alles über Mailkontakt?

"And everything I know is what I need to know and everything I do's been done before."Closing down:
a mailout not to advertise a new release as such but just to keep ya posted on goings on here. the great pop supplement is drawing to a close after 13 / 14 years. (I’ve looked on discogs and they oddly list 02 as 2002 with 01 as 2003?!)
main reason is that i’m much preferring my output on deep distance and especially polytechnic youth, and at the end of the day i always felt running a label was only ever an extension of what yr listening to at home….--
