A plump, flaxen-haired Briton was once moved to ask the world, „Who knows where the time goes?“ She did not live to see this question answered. Indeed, it’s likely that none of us will. It’s more of a rhetorical question, anyway. But it’s one that invites reflection as we, The Decemberists, get ready to heave unto the world our latest concoction of songs. Instruments were played, vocal cords strained, and many a New Seasons sandwich was consumed in inclement weather, despite it being late spring. In the end, a full LP-worth of songs was collated to make a record.

I suppose you’d like to know the title of the record and when it comes out, this new offering of Decemberist songs. Well, wait no longer: the record will be called The King Is Dead and will be available on January 18th, 2011. That’s 1/18/11. If you take away the slashes, that reads 11811. What does that mean? Must you ask? Clearly it is a snowman surrounded by a colonnade of waving banners.

But this is obviously a snowman of no small importance. Perhaps he is the king of the snowmen, returned from far afield to reclaim his rightful mantle, which had been usurped by some lesser snowmen and women. Or maybe he’s been laid in state, which would give this oblique album title the slightest tinge of a greater meaning, rather than being just something artful someone thought up, which is the fashion nowdays.

Tönt wieder eher wie klassische Decemberists.
Allerdings hat es mich noch nicht so ganz gepackt.

Am 13. März erscheint ein Live-Album der Decemberists.

We’ve been hard at work pulling together a collection of the best live recordings from the 2011 Popes of Pendarvia World Tour. We All Raise Our Voices To The Air (Live Songs 04.11-08.11), a twenty song live double-album and triple-vinyl set, will be available in stores and online March 13th!

The album, our first-ever live record, features many songs from The King Is Dead, as well as many classic favorites. Performances come from shows at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Stubb’s BBQ in Austin, Marymoor Amphitheatre in Seattle, our final two shows at McMenamins Edgefield Amphitheatre in Portland, and others. The album will be available to pre-order on decemberists.com soon. Here’s the full track list:

Ganz nette Songauswahl, hätte mir allerdings noch Don’t Carry It All gewünscht. Ansonsten freue ich mich drauf und hoffe, dass dies nicht als Ersatz für Konzerte in Europa angesehen wird.

Witzig: Dieser Thread ist über die Forensuche nach „(The) Decemberists“ nicht zu finden, wohl aber in der rechten Spalte „via Google -Suche“…

Nachdem so manche Musikkritiker nach der letzten Beautiful-World-Terribble-World-Platte musikalische Veränderungen gefordert haben und die Decemberists zu meinem Entsetzen 2018 offensichlich dem nachgegeben haben, tauchten sie zumindest hier im Forum nirgends mehr in den Jahresendcharts auf 

Die kürzlich nachgelegte EP stimmt mich wieder etwas versönlich, „Midlist Author“ ein echter Hit.

Von dem Album war ich auch sehr enttäuscht. Besonders „Severed“ und die „Glamrock Einlage“ bei „We All Die Young“ haben mich genervt. Die Band gehörte immerhin in den letzten Jahren zu meinen Lieblingen. Die EP kenne ich nicht, muss ich wohl mal nachschauen. Danke für den Tipp.
