Tim arrives back into the UK this weekend as The Charlatans continue the work on the new album. Lots of new tracks and lots of new ideas. We have rented out a country house in Cornwall, where the boys will complete the final work on the existing songs, along with an inevitable batch of new songs that will doubtless come out of the session.die sollen in die puschen kommen!!!

– THE CHARLATANS have revealed they have begun work on their tenth album, which they are recording in CHESHIRE’s BIG MUSHROOM studios.
Following the end of Tim Burgess‘ solo UK tour at the end of November, the band met their production team at Manchester’s Rossetti Hotel about the new record.
According to a message posted on the band’s official website thecharlatans.net, the band said: „Later we headed over to Big Mushroom to hear yet another new track that has come fresh from Tony (Rogers – organ)’s studio at his home… class.“
The Charlatans also revealed several tracks have already been completed. They said: „The band has never had so many songs available ahead of the start of the album. With ‚Try Again Today‘, ‚Blue For You‘, and ‚Feel The Pressure‘ already recorded, we expect to have eight songs finished by Christmas, with the balance to be completed in January. Working titles for the next five songs are ‚Dead Love‘, ‚Apples And Oranges‘, ‚Up At The Lake‘, ‚Loving You Is Easy‘. and ‚High Up Your Tree‘.“
„We will keep you in the loop as matters progress,“ they added. „Everything in the Big Mushroom is absolutely fine and dandy“
A source close to the band said that an exact release date has not been confirmed, but the album will come out during 2004.

manches auf der „us and us only“ erinnert auch stark an „exile on main street“, z.b. „senses“.Klar, gänzlich an mir vorbeigegangen sind die Charlatans nicht, aber irgendwie bin ich nie dazu gekommen, mir ein Album zuzulegen. Vor 2 Monaten war es dann günstig die „Songs from the other side“, die ich eher mäßig finde. Der Opener „Imperial 109“ ist allerdings der Wahnsinn – was für ein unglaubliches Stück Orgel-Psychedelia!
Und jetzt gestern endlich „Us and us only“ bekommen und gehört – super! Was auch immer das ist, Britpop meets 60sRock so in etwa, tolles Album. Senses ist tatsächlich herausragend, an „Exile“ habe ich zwar nicht gedacht, aber irgendwas mindestens 30 Jahre altes ist da nicht fern.

@ janPP: „Us and us only“ ist überragend. „Wonderland“ solltest Du auslassen, mit dem neuen Album bekommen sie noch einmal die Kurve. Hier in Deutschland ist die Band eigentlich tot. (@popkid: stichel, stichel)

Die Band ist nur tot, weil da draußen so viele Banausen rumlaufen… ;)

Tja und dass die Charlatans hier nicht mehr gewürdigt werden, liegt wohl eher daran, dass der deutsche Musikjournalismus tot ist…--

Auch Tellin' Stories und natürlich Us And Us Only mag ich gerne. Dennoch denke ich, dass sie live immernoch besser sind (ich konnte sie zwar noch nie sehen, hab aber einige Bootlegs).

Die Band hat nach dem ersten Album und dem Manchester-Hype zu diesem Zeitpunkt einfach keinen Song mehr gehabt, der von einem grösseren Publikum wahrgenommen wurde. „One to another“ fand ich absolut klasse, offensichtlich aber sonst fast keiner. Und so gingen die teilweise guten Folgealben hier richtig unter, ausserdem hat die Band meiner Meinung nach hier auch zu wenig live gespielt. Wahrscheinlich war/ist den Charlatans der deutsche Markt einfach schnurzpiepe?
Der RS hat meines Wissens zumindest die Platten regelmässig besprochen. Bei der Roadshow hätte ich statt „Soundtrack..“ jedenfalls lieber die Charlatans.
