FlyLo, klar!

„Downstairs they’re playing Kenton“:

Und später heisst es mal noch: He says „nobody listens / To modern jazz“. Stimmt ja leider auch fast …

Van Morrison „Close Enough For Jazz“

No use feeling sad
No use staying mad
Better when you’re glad
You can be there in a heartbeat
When it’s close enough for jazz
Close enough for jazz

Be glad with what you have
Even if it’s half
Empty in the glass
If there’s room to move your elbows
Then it’s close enough for jazz
Close enough for jazz

When you’re not in a hurry
When things may turn around
Never give in to worry
Try looking up not down, don’t frown

Close enough for jazz
Is it persil is it daz?
Well it doesn’t really matter
When it’s better on the inside
And it’s close enough for jazz
Close enough for jazz
Close enough for jazz
Close enough for jazz, oh yeah

Well gold in the eyes of a rich man
Is pure joy and I guess that’s okay
To me, joy is a warm and a muted horn
It’s you, in a silent way

What if nobody suffered from heartaches?
If we never played music again
No Prez, no Bird, no nothing at all
No you and no sketches of Spain

Now all that I choose to remember
Is all you’ve decided to share
As surely as night is descending
On God’s empty chair

And just when we thought it was over
When there’s fear in the eyes of the fool
We were ready to say
Man let’s call it a day
In you came with the birth of the cool

Oh how could I start to explain it
Just how long I’ve been humming that tune
Won’t you turn and look over your shoulder
again
It’s just me and I’m kinda blue

All that I choose to remember
Is all you’ve decided to share
As surely as night is descending
On God’s empty chair
How surely the night has descended
On God’s empty chair

—————————–

Meanwhile in the ghettos dust and gloom.
Bird is blowin in his room.
All those notes(x3)
wont take the pain away.
And you’ll surely come to harm,
with that needle all up in your arm.
And dope will never turn the night to day.

Im Sinne des Wortspiels …. :

Leonard Cohen „Jazz Police“ (LP „I`m Your Man“) 1988

Can you tell me why the bells are ringing?
Nothing’s happened in a million years
I’ve been sitting here since Wednesday morning
Wednesday morning can’t believe my ears
Jazz police are looking through my folders
Jazz police are talking to my niece
Jazz police have got their final orders
Jazzer, drop your axe, it’s Jazz police!

Jesus taken serious by the many
Jesus taken joyous by a few
Jazz police are paid by J. Paul Getty
Jazzers paid by J. Paul Getty II

Jazz police I hear you calling
Jazz police I feel so blue
Jazz police I think I’m falling,
I’m falling for you

Wild as any freedom loving racist
I applaud the actions of the chief
Tell me now oh beautiful and spacious
Am I in trouble with the Jazz police?

Jazz police are looking through my folders …

They will never understand our culture
They’ll never understand the Jazz police
Jazz police are working for my mother
Blood is thicker margarine than grease

Let me be somebody I admire
Let me be that muscle down the street
Stick another turtle on the fire
Guys like me are mad for turtle meat

Jazz police I hear you calling
Jazz police I feel so blue
Jazz police I think I’m falling,
I’m falling for you

Funkadelic „Who Says a Funk Band Can’t Play Rock?!“ (LP „One Nation Undr A Groove“) 1978
Who says a jazz band can’t play dance music?
Who says a rock band can’t play funky?
Who says a funk band can’t play rock? Oh yeah
We’re gonna play some funk so loud
We’re gonna rock ’n‘ roll the crowd
Just watch them dance, watch them dance

We really love to play
We’re in the mood to sing, yeah
Won’t you take the time to get the music on your mind?
We’ll release you from the bind, yeah, yeah

We’ve been around for such a while
Be kinda hard not to have a style
When times get slower by the mile
We relax and wear a great big smile
You can count my teeth one, two, three, four, fiv

People think ‚cause we are here
Our jazz ran out, the ship won’t steer no more
We picked up on the rhythm here
If you just take a toot and have a beer
We’re gonna make it clear

Who says a jazz band can’t play dance music?
Who says a rock band can’t play funky?
Who says a funk band can’t play rock? Oh yeah
We’re gonna play some funk so loud
We’re gonna rock ’n‘ roll the crowd
Just watch them dance, watch them dance

We never take a chance
Music is our one romance, yeah
May I have this dance?
Give it a chance

Who says a jazz band can’t play dance music?
Who says a rock band can’t play funky?
Who says a funk band can’t play rock? Oh yeah
We’re gonna play some funk so loud
We’re gonna rock ’n‘ roll the crowd
Just watch them dance, watch them dance

Who says a jazz band can’t play dance music?
Who says a rock band can’t play funky?
Who says a funk band can’t play rock? Oh yeah
We’re gonna play some funk so loud
We’re gonna rock ’n‘ roll the crowd
Just watch them dance, watch them dance

Who says a jazz band can’t play dance music?
Who says a rock band can’t play funky?
Who says a funk band can’t play rock? Oh yeah
We’re gonna play some funk so loud
We’re gonna rock ’n‘ roll the crowd
Just watch them dance, watch them danc

Who says a jazz band can’t play dance music?
Who says a rock band can’t play funky?
Who says a funk band can’t play rock? Oh yeah
We’re gonna play some funk so loud
We’re gonna rock ’n‘ roll the crowd
Just watch them dance, watch them dance

The Who „We Close Tonight“ (LP „Odds & Sods“) 1974

How can I explain how I feel
I’m like a little kid running at her heel
She’s giving me looks like she thinks I’m a snappy dresser
How can I tell what I should plan
I’ve never kissed a girl or held her hand
She’s waiting for me to move, I’ve got to impress her

I play guitar in a mainstream band
I’ve got three red jackets and a Fender jazz
I’ve got Charlie Parker’s autograph
The girl I moved with’s turned up on grass

She moved her seat next to mine
But I’m just playing for time
I ain’t got the guts to let her see the real me
My confidence eroded away
Over hearing what children say
So I’m trying to make myself seem more appealing

I know your man is in to playing jazz bass
I tried that myself but I need more space
Like to soar and fly like the big Birdman
When I met him last week he shook my hand

Every lie I tell weaves another spell, another road that ends up blind
The Bird that shook my hand was a wanted man, I think you knew that all the time

I came so close to having you for me
But I lost you in the fantasy
I pretended to myself that you were mine already
You waited but deep in your eyes
You were watching me so wordly wise
Then you changed the subject and talked about going steady

I’ve got 200 records and a big hi-fi
I sit and listen to Ella and Basie all night
I played modern jazz of every variety
You could come and listen but we close tonight

Dire Straits “Sultans Of Swing“ (LP „Sultens Of Swing“) 1978

You get a shiver in the dark
It’s raining in the park but meantime
South of the river you stop and you hold everything
A band is blowing Dixie double four time
You feel alright when you hear that music ring

Well, now you step inside but you don’t see too many faces
Coming in out of rain to hear the jazz go down
Competition in other places
Oh, but the horns, they’re blowing that sound
Way on down south, way on down south London town

You check out Guitar George he knows all the chords
Mind he’s strictly rhythm he doesn’t want to make it cry or sing
Left-handed old guitar is all he can afford
When he gets up under the lights to play his thing

And Harry doesn’t mind if he doesn’t make the scene
He’s got a daytime job, he’s doing alright
He can play the honky tonk like anything
Saving it up for Friday night
With the Sultans, with the Sultans of Swing

And a crowd of young boys, they’re fooling around in the corner
Drunk and dressed in their best brown baggies and their platform soles
They don’t give a damn about any trumpet playing band
It ain’t what they call rock and roll
And the Sultans, yeah, the Sultans, they play Creole, Creole

And then the man, he steps right up to the microphone
And says at last just as the time bell rings
„Goodnight, now it’s time to go home.“
And he makes it fast with one more thing,
„We are the Sultans, we are the Sultans of Swing.“
