Ich kam damals (wie wohl die meisten) über „Don’t You” auf die Band, das es ärgerlicherweise auf keinem Album gab.

Um Carrot Flower zu zitieren: Bin halt nicht so der Fantyp. Da muss man nicht alles haben. Stattdessen konzentriere mich am liebsten auf die Besten, und die habe ich mit „Once Upon A Time”, „Live” (eine gute Greatest Hits Live, wenn auch im Studio etwas zu aufpoliert) und den „Street Fighting Years”.

Ins Frühwerk habe ich sicher mal reingehört, das gefiel mir aber nicht gut, als dass ich weiter einsteigen wollte. Wird dann auch nicht besternt.

SFY gefiel mir lange am besten, beim jüngsten Wiederhören war ich ein bisschen enttäuscht, da hatte die Platte etwas prätentiös Langatmiges, und die Sachen der mittleren Phase gefielen mir umgekehrt in ihrer Kompaktheit besser.

Das Frühwerk ist nahezu durch die Bank großartig bis genial, der Abstieg in banale Überladenheit, in Pomp und Firlefanz, wurde allerdings mit geradezu verheerender Konsequenz vollzogen. Ähnlich wie bei U2. Wobei Jim Kerr keine ganz so peinliche Gestalt wie Bono abgibt.

Tja, da haben wir es schon: Ich höre es da ziemlich anders und ihr „Mittelwerk“ eindeutig vorne (1982-1989).
„Empires“ und „Sons“ können wieder nichts hinzugewinnen. Konturlos, schlimmes Schlagwerk und keine/wenige Melos.;-)
