Dass Kate Bush Göttin und Märchentante zugleich ist, darf hier noch einmal apodiktisch erwähnt werden. Das allerdings macht die Gesamtbewertung für mich etwas schwierig. Als Mitglied einer Jury würde ich „Hounds of love“ ganz sicher die ***** für eine der herausragenden Pop-Platten der 80er zusprechen mögen. Bush bildete die Speerspitze und war dabei – wie immer – zugleich entwaffnend autark. „Running up that hill“ ist eine äußerst bemerkenswerte Single gewesen. („Cloudbusting“ mag ich nicht so.)
Ich aber bleibe bei meiner subjektivistischen Linie. Das Schlagwerk überzeugt mich nicht ganz, es ist wie so vieles zu dieser Zeit zu statisch, die Klänge sind zu wenig lebendig. Der Fairlight ist toll eingesetzt, behält jedoch auch immer etwas zu Plakatives. Bushs Stimme ist für mich Balsam, sie lullt mich ein. Ihre Ausstrahlung könnte kaum größer sein. Aber da ist ein bisschen zu viel Märchen. Und Tante. Ich habe gerade Grass‘ „Im Krebsgang“ gelesen. Darin werden das Sinken der „Wilhelm Gustloff“ und die elendigen Tode der Passagiere eindrucksvoll dargestellt. Aus Sicht einer Überlebenden. Kinder mit den Beinchen nach oben. Bushs Untergangsszenario der „The ninth wave“-Suite hat dagegen etwas zu Harmloses. Zu viel Märchen. Ist Pop, aber ist auch nicht so gut.
