Ich fand diese Kritik bei RYM sehr lustig, daher poste ich sie mal. Ich habe keine Ahnung, ob sie zutrifft.

Mod revival shouldn’t be a thing.

Once the NME becomes sentient and begins controlling the airwaves, this is what all music will sound like. Miles Kane is a weird mish-mash of everything that has graced the UK’s favourite indie gossip rag since the ’60s. It’s almost if he was created by the NME in an attempt to promote their message and values.

It’s not to say he doesn’t have any good ideas; it’s just none of them are his own. You can tell that the original chorus for ‘Out of Control’ went “So, sally can wait”, until he realised he isn’t in Oasis in 1995. Meanwhile, ‘You’re Gonna Get it’ featured a modified version of the riff from ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ by ZZ Top. Don’t Forget Who You Are is essentially a big game of “where have I heard this before?”.

Another game you can play whilst listening to Don’t Forget Who You Are is “count the lyrical clichés”. You could try drinking every time you hear one, but it’s not advisable. If you don’t vomit from the sheer amount of alcohol you would have to consume, rhyming couplets such as “What’s a poor boy to do/Reckless and blue” will have you reaching for the barf-bag.

To its credit, Don’t Forget Who You Are is consistently well produced, and some songs are typically catchy indie crowd pleasers, that will no doubt worm their way onto any NME fans iPod. Other than that, it is essentially just a decent tribute album, and who wants a tribute when you can listen to the originals?
