A hit album in its time, the appeal of Swiss Movement has faded fairly drastically. Cut live at Montreux, it’s a ragged set of soul-jazz vamps, with a probably definitive version of McCann’s ‚Compared to What‘, but the excitement is mitigated by what remains atrocious sound, even for a live session. Bailey’s slo on ‚You Got It In Your Soulness‘ offers the best moment, but overall the revival of interest in soul-jazz has uncovered many better records than this.
