Wir freuen uns außerordentlich, heute ankündigen zu können, dass wir am 27. März 2009
das neue Album der Decemberists veröffentlichen. Es ist nicht nur das fünfte Album der Band aus Portland und das erste nach ihrem großen Erfolgswerk „The Crane Wife“, sondern
ein geradezu bombastisches Werk, das eine Brücke bauen will zwischen Folk und Metal und
eine Geschichte von nahezu biblischen Ausmaßen erzählt. Wäre das Wort nicht negativ bestzt,
man könnte es doch ein Konzeptalbum nennen, dieses 17 Songs umfassende Opus, das die
Band erneut mit ihrem langjährigen Produzenten Tucker Martine einspielte. Dabei wurde das
Quintett um Colin Meloy von namhaften Kollegen wie z.B. Becky Stark von Lavender Diamond,
Shara Worden von My Brightest Diamond und Jim James von My Morning Jacket unterstützt.

„The Hazards Of Love“ tells the tale of a woman named Margaret who is ravaged by a shape-shifting animal; her lover, William; a forest queen; and a cold-blooded, lascivious rake, who recounts with spine-tingling ease how he came „to be living so easy and free“.
„There’s an odd bond between the music of the British folk revival and classic metal,“ says Meloy. „A natural connection between, like, Fairport Convention and Black Sabbath – of course, Sandy Denny from Fairport even sang with Led Zeppelin on ‚The Battle of Evermore.‘
I think there’s a shared sense of narrative and ambience, of moving beyond the first person in your writing. And I thought it would be interesting to mess around with that.“
The Decemberists gehen mit diesem Monumentalwerk zunächst in den USA auf Tournee, wir hoffen, dass sie uns im Spätsommer beehren können.
