1966, der tourmanager bob bonis fand gefallen an dem kraftvollen sound der remains, war jedoch der meinung, dass die columbiaaufnahmen nicht den wahren spirit wiedergeben würden. so lies er die jungs an einem freitagmorgen in den capitol studios einige lieder neu einspielen – live! es entstand das album „a session with the remains“. der lead singer und gitarrist barry tashian meinte später: “ to me, this is the one (and only) recording that captured the true spirit of the remains“.
