Das hab ich grad für den Larry Young-Thread abgetippt:
Michael CuscunaWhere Miles had insinuated and adopted certain trappings of the progressive rock styles of the day, Tony Williams and company dove right in full force with all of their musical knowledge and rock’s energy and power. Where Miles noodled with psychedelia, this band forged a true synthesis of sixties jazz and sixties rock. They were the first and, without a doubt, the most honest and creative ensemble in fusion music. They spawned many imitators, including McLaughlin’s own Mahavishnu Orchestra, but nothing matched the energy, excitement, dynamics, personality and creativity of Lifetime. Fusion eventually became a sterile, predictable, manufactured form of what was first meant to be startling and revolutionary. And everyone went to the bank, except Larry and Tony.
~ Michael Cuscuna April, 1991 (Liner Notes zu „The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Larry Young“, Mosaic Records, 1991)
