Bei dem Album – und eigentlich allem, was Dylan seit 1997 gemacht hat – sieht man, dass eine Platte mehr als die Summe der Einzelsongs ist. Auch ohne herausstechende Einzelsongs: „Modern Times“ ist aus einem Guß – und das ist gut so. Der Bandcharakter steht im Vordergrund, Dylans Stimme kratzt sich durch die Songs und die Band swingt und groovt sich durch die Stücke.
