Mitte der 80er Jahre hatte ich eine Zeitlang das Interesse an der aktuellen Popmusik verloren, bis mein Cousin 1985 eine Band, die Part Time Punx, gründete. Deren Platten wurden damals auch vom Malibu-Versand vertrieben. Eines Tages gab er mir einen der Malibu-Kataloge und darin waren schon einige Titel angestrichen. Ich vertraute seinem Geschmack und bestellte blind die LP „Kettle“ von den Chesterfields.
Schon nach einmaligem hören war ich begeistert und „Kettle“ ist bis heute mein Lieblingsalbum.
„Completely and Utterly“ kommt dem nahe, was ich als den perfekten Popsong ansehe: twangling Gitarren, treibend nach vorne, toller Gesang, ein eingängiger Refrain … „They got electric guitars in their hearts“. Und in 2 Minuten ist alles vorbei.
