Hi & greetz from US, diese mail kam gerade rein:
Hi, my name is Douglas and I write to you because of some review for a Rolling-Stone-Magazine-talent-CD (from Germany I guess). I'm a music-writer for different independent magazines in the Philly-area, beside this I work as a DJ for WMAFC. I get the CD from a friend of mine, a nice young lady called Linda Saffer, who is related to some guy on the CD.
OK, lets see, what's up with the german rock'n'roll scene: First song is called „number on your wall“ from Linda's cousin Stefan and this guy knows how to rock, nice and simple…for me personal, this tune reminds me to some groups from the mid80ties like Soul Asylum…good song, good voice, nice lyrics. Yeah, the lyrics..of the next two songs are in german, so I can't much say…the sound of the first one reminds me a little bit to early Pixies, the latter one has very nice guitar work. Next on CD is Jan Dark with „stimulate“ ok, haha, nuff said with the lyrics..pop goes sleazy, I like that one (my girlfriend too). Next song which gets my attention a little bit more is „love kills“ from Entrance. Beautiful, innocent singing, is that a live-cut? Thanks to soulster for revealing me from this – sometimes strange-sounding german music – with a musical postcard from Texas!
And now here comes the funny Captain, first with a nice song, some sort of alt.country or what? Didn't knew that this music works out in the rest of the world! BUT the second song!!! Hey Cpt. do you know, how an US-Version of the penis-song would sound like? Beep..singing..beep…some chords…beep..hahaha! Ok, where we are…oh yeah, Invisible Unit, is this some floyd-cover?
Ok, have to admit, that I didn't get to a close call with the CD, but the last two songs are really strange..first some hcpunk with very whacky vocals and then some campfire strumming with drunk (??) people singing…wazzat???
Finally: A nice CD, never expected so much good music stuff from Germany..very interesting, some of the artists (Jan Dark, soulster, Saffer and the Courtmen, the Cpt (but this guy with rewritten lyrics) maybe get some airplay even here in the States…but this is just my personal point of view…don't take it too serious, but be serious with your music!!
Love and greetings from Philadelphia
Dougie
