Dieses Potter-Album ging auch bei der ECM-Strecke völlig an mir vorbei @atom – aber lustigerweise hab ich’s vor zehn Tagen beim Sale von Jazzmessengers entdeckt und bestellt. Warte noch auf die Zustellung, aber bin bei dem Line-Up echt gespannt!
Bei mir lief gestern CD 1 hieraus – Jazz ist das nicht, aber interessiert vermutlich @redbeansandrice mehr denn @yaiza, drum platzier ich’s mal hier (und erwähne doch beide 
):
Dick Hyman – Scott Joplin: The Complete Works for Piano | Ein 5-LP-Set von 1975 (in diversen Sessions im Februar/März des Jahres eingespielt), das letztes Jahr von Sony als 3-CD-Set neu aufgelegt wurde – in etwas verändertere Reihenfolge. Und das ist wirklich grossartig – spricht mich vom ersten Eindruck her auch mehr als z.B. das recht neue Set von Marc-André Hamelin mit Rags von Bolcom (Hyperion, 2 CDs), das ich aber auch als (kleinere) Entdeckung betrachte. Hyman ist hier die perfekte Wahl, weil er … ich lass es doch Jed Distler sagen:
Although Hyman’s pianism embraces the entire history of jazz piano, his effortless virtuosity is firmly rooted in classical training. As Rudi Blesh aptly stated in his brilliant and insightful original booklet annotations, the pianist “takes ragtime seriously without becoming solemn and portentous, more as one must do in approaching, say, much of Mozart.”
Two further qualities make Hyman’s Joplin stand out: his intelligent tempo choices, and his ideal fusion of classical projection and jazz time keeping.
