Lee Konitz at the Half Note
nachdem ich Ethan Iverson’s Artikel über Motian gelesen hab, vor allem diesen Satz: my favorite Evans is on records with Paul Chambers, Sam Jones, Percy Heath, and especially Garrison at the Half Note with Paul, Konitz, and Warne Marsh. Starke Aussage. Hatte gar nicht so recht auf dem Schirm, was für ein Lineup das ist… Konitz und Marsh 1959 begleitet von einem Bill Evans Trio mit Motian und Jimmy Garrison (Before Scott LaFaro was in the trio, the bassist was Jimmy Garrison. Paul loved playing with Garrison but Evans didn’t, saying that “everything Garrison plays sounds like the blues.”). Und diese Frontline mit den zwei schwebenden Saxophonen erinnert mich natürlich an mein liebstes Motian Album, On Broadway Vol 5.
Phantastische Aufnahme! War da nicht was, dass Evans hier für Tristano eingesprungen ist? Steht bei Iverson nicht … aber doch richtig erinnert: im CD-Booklet, das man hier nachlesen kann:
