Meine Erstbegegnung mit Johnny Ray:
„Poor old Johnny Ray

Kevin Rowland hatte damals einen überbordend gefühlvollen Gesangsstil entwickelt, der auf langsameren Stücken bis zum Schluchzen reichte. Eins seiner offensichtlichen Vorbilder ist Van Morrison, ein weniger offensichtliches – aber hier explizit genanntes – Vorbild ist wohl Johnny Ray. Zumindest seinem Namen begegnete ich damals so und habe viel später auch mal nachgehört, wovon Kevin Rowland sang.
