Erst im Juli 1964 ging Mitchell wieder ins Studio – mit der neuen alten Band, die aus drei Fünfteln des Horace Silver Quintet bestand: Mitchell, Junior Cook und Bassist Gene Taylor. Dazu stiessen Chick Corea und Al Foster. Und mit „Fungii Mama“ spielte die Band gleich zu Beginn der Session das Stück ein, das Mitchells populärstes überhaupt bleiben sollte.
