Es gibt überall Alternativen, und es gibt natürlich noch viel mehr (Groove Holmes, Don Patterson, Johnny Hammond Smith, Lonnie Smith …), aber irgendwo muss man ja anfangen!

Mario Pavone – Sharpeville mit Marty Ehrlich (as, ss, cl, fl, alto fl), Chapin (as, fl, bass fl) und Pheeroan ak Laff (d) – auf einem Stück ist die Band eine andere: John Betsch (d), Mark Whitecage (as), Peter McEachern (tb – den kenne ich auch nur aus dem Chapin-Umfeld, es gibt von ihm eine CD, „Shockwave“, mit Chapin, Pavone, Drummer Steve Johns und dem mir ebenso unbekannten Trompeter James Finegan).
Pavone wäre ev. mal ein Name für @sidewinder – er hat ziemlich viel als Leader gemacht und fast alles, was ich kenne, ist gut bis super (Toulon Days, Song for (Septet), orange, boom, deez to blues, the arc, street songs, Blue Dialect, Vertical, Philosophy) – ich würd einfach gucken, was zu kriegen ist (Playscape CDs gibt es oft bei Jazzmessengers).
