weiß man eigentlich, wie deppenschmidt das geklapper hingekriegt hat? klingt, als sei das mit der hand gespielt.
Buddy Deppenschmidt – We were in Brazil for two weeks. It was in Salvador, Bahia, that I met a judge, Carlos Coqueijo Costa. Josmar Lopes – Tell us about that. That’s your first encounter with Brazilian music, wasn’t it? Buddy Deppenschmidt – Yeah, he invited us all over to his house for dinner. And then after dinner, everybody got the guitar and passed it around. And everybody in the family played well. His son was a piano player, but he also played guitar well, and a drummer. They put on João Gilberto records and he put a cardboard album jacket between his knees and started playing brushes on it. Unbelievable brushes! I thought, “Wow, this is really great stuff.” So, I think we went out the very next day, Keter Betts and I went out … and bought the records of Gilberto. There were only two at the time. We bought both of them. We’d go to the [American] Embassy and borrow a little portable record player and play the records in our room. Keter would bring his bass down to my room and we would rehearse. We got it together before we ever finished the tour. We were just anxious to get the sound.

Ja, lief auch bei mir im Hause, als wir abends auf dem Balkon saßen.
Charlie Byrd war ja auch in Deinem BFT vertreten. Einer der vier Gitarristen, mit denen Stan Getz dieses Quartett von Bossa Nova Alben gemacht hat und die alle vier ganz ausgezeichnet sind. Man müsste könnte sollte da eigentlich noch mal genauer hinhören, um die Eigenarten der einzelnen Gitarristen besser zu erkennen.
Schön, wie Gitarre und Perkussionsinstrumente da ein filigranes, transparentes Gewebe ergeben!
Und da hier im weiteren Verlauf auch Paul Desmond erwähnt wurde, lege ich jetzt mal hiermit nach.
Paul Desmond – Take Ten (1963)
Der Gitarrist ist hier Jim Hall auf der Elektrischen. Viel kenne ich nicht von ihm. Immer etwas spröde und zurückhaltend, scheint mir. Kammermusikalisch. Hier wirklich „nur“ Begleiter. Das Album flirtet zwar auch heftig mit der Bossa Nova, z.B. mit dem Theme From Black Orpheus, die Musiker sind jedoch hörbar alle keine Brasilianer. Aber trotzdem eine sehr schöne Platte.
