H.T.: I would say Art Tatum and Samuel Browne had an influence on my playing, and a cat named Roosevelt Wardell. There are several people I love to listen to as far as influence. If I was to buy piano records I would buy Andrew Hill, Randy Weston, people like Red Garland. The way Andrew plays, I love it… it’s creative all the time.--

Ja, ich hab ihn auch fasziniert zu Ende gelesen, obwohl ich erst gestern um halb 12 damit begann… krasse Story jedenfalls.
Die späten Lounge Lizards Alben, ganz besonders das erwähnte „Queen of All Ears“, sind sehr sehr toll!

He dropped this clue on me once: in a five-man section, harmonize the two tenors and two altos and use the baritone sax as an independent voice, moving it any which way with or against the other four, contrapuntally, in contrary motion, or whatever strikes the writer’s fancy, as long as it sounds good.
Leider hatte Dameron erst in den „Big Ten“ (ab Jan 1949 auf air checks) Barisax in der Band (Cecil Payne… er hatte auch Sahib Shihab dabei, der spielte damals aber noch Altsax, zumindest mit Dameron).

Ziskinds kurzer Kommentar nach dem Abgang Lou Levys in die ewigen Jagdgründe… Levy ist auch ein Favorit. Dass Pinky Winters seine significant other war ist mir allerdings neu!--
