Brian Eno‘s 1983 album Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks has been remastered and expanded for a special ‘extended edition’ due in July

The album was written, produced and performed by Brian Eno together with his brother Roger and Daniel Lanois. The music was originally recorded in 1983 for the feature-length documentary, For All Mankind, directed by American journalist, film director and screenwriter, Al Reinert.

According to the label, the 11 new tracks on this Apollo extended edition “find Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois and Roger Eno working collectively for the first time since the original album in 1983.” Lanois contributed 3 compositions – ‘Capsule,’ ‘Last Step From The Surface’ and ‘Fine-grained’ while Roger Eno’s are ‘Waking Up,’ ‘Under The Moon’ and ‘Strange Quiet.’

The vinyl comes in a gatefold sleeve and includes a download. There are actually two CD editions: a limited and numbered deluxe with hardcover book and the standard 2CD. Both vinyl and CD editions are released on 19 July 2019.

Isaac Hayes – „Shaft: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack“ (Deluxe Edition)

Can the soundtrack to Shaft get any bigger? “You’re damn right!” Isaac Hayes’ masterful, chart-topping album comes back in June as a 2CD deluxe edition that features the original double album alongside Hayes’ original film score recordings.

It’s been nearly 50 years since Richard Roundtree first lit up the screen as New York’s toughest private detective, John Shaft. In that time, he’s reprised the role on TV and in four sequels. (A fifth is due next month; 2019’s Shaft follows 2000’s Shaft, both of which star Samuel L. Jackson as the nephew of the original protagonist.) And no matter where the character goes, Hayes’ distinctive, deeply funky theme (featuring instrumentation by The Bar-Kays along with lush orchestral passages) isn’t far off. The Stax Records superstar lobbied to play the character, but gave him a musical voice that’s long endured over the decades. The double album topped both the Billboard 200 and the R&B albums chart, while “Theme From Shaft” reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 for two weeks in the fall of 1971. For his efforts, Hayes became the first black man to win an Academy Award for a non-acting category, taking home the year’s Best Original Song trophy and earning three Grammy Awards including Best Instrumental Composition Specifically Written For a Motion Picture Or For Television.

For this new deluxe edition – a joint release between Craft and its newly-acquired Varese Sarabande soundtrack label – the album is paired with the rare original recordings as heard specifically in the film. (MGM recorded Hayes’ score direct to three-track, and he wanted a bigger sound for his album.

    JAMES TAYLOR – „The Warner Bros Albums 1970-1976“ ( 6CD-Box / 6LP-Box)

Rhino is about to shower the people with the first-ever box set from James Taylor. Between 1970 and 1976, the quintessential troubadour released six albums on Warner Bros. Records that laid the groundwork for his remarkable career which continues to this day.  At Warner Bros., Taylor introduced signature songs like “Fire and Rain,” “Sweet Baby James,” “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight,” “Mexico,” and “You Can Close Your Eyes,” as well as classic interpretations of “You’ve Got a Friend” (his first No. 1 and a Grammy winner) and “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You).”  Now, all six of his WB releases have been remastered for release on July 19 as The Warner Bros. Albums: 1970-1976 on 6 CDs, 6 LPs, or digital platforms.

    The new box set includes:

    • Sweet Baby James (1970)
    • Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon (1971)
    • One Man Dog (1972)
    • Walking Man (1974)
    • Gorilla (1975); and
    • In the Pocket (1976).

Guests on these landmark LPs include David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stevie Wonder, Paul and Linda McCartney, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Randy Newman, Carole King, and The Brecker Brothers.

Each album in the box has been freshly remastered, as overseen by Peter Asher. Not only did Asher sign Taylor to the Beatles’ Apple Records label in 1968 (where he recorded his solo debut album), but he served as his manager for 25 years, and originally produced the first three of these albums.   He writes in the collection’s liner notes, “Revisiting these albums several decades later has been revelatory, nostalgic, and exciting. I have heard bits and pieces frequently over the years, of course, but listening with concentration and in detail to each of the original tapes without interruption has been a thrilling luxury.”

Note that Taylor’s 1976 Greatest Hits album, which included re-recorded versions of his Apple Records cuts “Something in the Way She Moves” and “Carolina in My Mind” plus a live version of “Steamroller” is not included in this set.

With The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra“. Gute Bässe und Mitten aber auch hier die Höhen m.E. übersteuert, was einen „klirrenden“ Effekt in diesem Bereich verursacht. Unschön …..

Wenn ich mir die ersten Kritiken zur Box anschaue, wie z.B. bei amazon.de , ist die Verpackung der große Knackpunkt. Demnach ist es wohl überhaupt nichts mit Innenhüllen …
