Die Visison ist auch ganz begeistert und macht eine interessante textliche Entdeckung:

 

…Große Dramaturgen sind hier am Werk, die auch auf textlicher Ebene wenig dem Zufall überlassen. „Chaos Space Machine“ etwa endet mit den Zeilen „Billie Eilish style/ Concorde will fly/ Ignore the hole I’ve dug again.“ „Concorde“ heißt nicht nur der nächste Song, wie eine Art secret word bei Zappa taucht das Wort später auch wieder in „The Place Where He Inserted The Blade“ auf, bevor „Basketball Shoes“ mit den Worten beginnt „Concorde flies in my room“. „Ignore the hole I’ve dug again“ ist wiederum die erste Zeile in „Haldern“, in dem Woods auch nochmal auf den „Billie Eilish style“ zurückkommt. The new album feels like a natural and big departure from the first album! What artists were you listening to, and what changed in the songwriting process?

Charlie Wayne (Black Country, New Road): Yeah I think that departure felt really marked by everyone in the group. I remember being so worried about it. Particularly because people had become quite connected to the songs on the first album; I thought that people were going to really resent the lack of dissonance, or the more straightforward songwriting. I think the most important part of the songwriting was that we were creating music for one another, not for an audience. Most of the album was conceived during the lockdown at the beginning of 2021. We had no idea when we would be performing any of the songs. We just didn’t think about them in that context. We were writing music as a way to keep busy and happy during a very bleak time. When you’re in that sort of situation, creating dissonant or aggressive music felt super out of place. We wanted to write music that felt emotional and comforting.

We were all listening to different sorts of stuff, I think that’s one of the great things about the group. We’re all informed by slightly different influences. There is obviously some overlap: Arcade Fire, Billie Eilish, The Beach Boys and Arthur Russell are artists we all like. More specifically though I was listening to lots of Sufjan Stevens, Alex G, Pink Pantheress and Joyce Manor around the time we were writing and recording the album.

Es gibt ja auch eine 4-LP-Version: das Doppelalbum und dann noch ein Live Doppelalbum. Plus 4 Kunstdrucke und Booklet. Und nur 13 Euro teurer als als die reguläre DoLP.

themagneticfieldMüssten nicht eigentlich Leute, denen das gefällt auch einen Soft Spot für Titus Andronicus (zumindest fürs The Monitor Album) haben?

Also The Monitor ist unter meinen All-time Top 20 und dieses Album mag ich nach bislang 3-4 Hördurchgängen auch sehr.

plattensammlerLaut RS-Rezensent Markus Schneider ist das übrigens Neo-Prog! Aus der Neo-Prog-Szene um den Windmill Club in Brixton. Und vergibt 4 Sterne.

Das finde ich allerdings auch schräg. Höre da eher eine Verwandtschaft zu Arcade Fire und Bright Eyes (Lifted Phase) heraus.

Der Gedanke kam mir auch gleich. Vielleicht mit ein bisschen Special Needs, Patrick Wolf und sogar Noah and the Whale?

Erste Hälfte von Ants From Up There gehört. Gefällt soweit gut.

Noch nicht ausgiebig genug wahrscheinlich, aber der erste Eindruck ist ausgezeichnet.
Komplexe neue Songs, live vorgetragen und in sehr guter Qualität aufgenommen und gemischt.

Ich habe auch noch keinen fundierten Eindruck. Durch die neuen Stimmen schon ein bisschen anderer Vibe. Erinnert mich teilweise sehr an Joanna Newsom. Ein dringende Hörempfehlung traue ich mich auf jeden aussprechen..
