HASHIM, Mustapha. A jazz musician and music teacher who performed professionally under the name of Kirt Bradford with the famed Jimmy Lunceford in the 1940’s, died December 10, 1996. He was 83. After Mr. Lunceford’s death, Mr. Hashim moved to San Diego where he married and began to raise a family. He worked at the Naval Air Station at Brown Field as a gardener and continued to study, teach, write and play music. In 1963 he and his family moved to Tucson, Arizona where he worked as an Accountant for Pima County. He retired in 1974 and moved to Guadalajara, Mexico where he taught music and performed under arts grants to increase the appreciation for jazz in Mexico. He returned to the U.S. in 1979 and lived and performed at various times until his death, in San Francisco, Honolulu and Tucson. He is survived by his children, daughters, Pamela Garcia and Sidney Eng of Tucson, Arizona, Stephanie Daniel of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Diana Cunningham of Oakland, CA and Cheryl Ward of San Francisco, CA; sons, Charles Hashim of San Pablo, CA and Hashim Mustapha of Green Valley, Arizona, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Hashim was preceded in death by his wife, Helene R. Hashim. Memorial Services will be held at South Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 25 E. District Street, Tucson, AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Mustapha Hashim Music Scholarship Fund in care of 1541 S. Desert Crest Drive, Tucson, AZ 85713.
