Gibt es hier wirklich noch keinen eigenen Thread für diese vollkommen unterbewertete Gruppe, die wohl leider nie über den Status eines Geheimtipps hinauskommen wird ?

It’s fitting the Ozric Tentacles formed at a festival, as the band have been a mainstay on the festival circuit ever since. A conversation about hypothetical cereal brands at the Stonehenge Festival in 1984 led to the creation of the legendary space-rock troopers. Before long, the Ozrics were festival favourites.

The emergence of acid house in the late eighties and early nineties and the ethos of the rave scene merged perfectly with the Ozrics unique brand of psychedelic space-rock, taking the band to a new level.

To date the band have sold over 1 million albums and remain firm fixtures on the festival scene around the globe with recent appearances in the US, Canada, Greece, UK, Chile and many more.

Sunrise Festival captures the magic of one of these performances on a CD & DVD set. Recorded last year at the Sunrise Celebration Festival in Somerset, the set features classic tracks from the band’s career. On this anniversary release, Ed has asked a few special friends to join him. Original Keyboardist Joie Hinton, and former Ozric’s drummer, Merv Pepler from appear for the first time in twelve years in a groundbreaking reunion!

The Ozrics release their new studio album since 2006’s ‚The Floor’s Too Far Away‘ in the Spring of 2009. Entitled: ‚The Yum Yum Tree‘, it features 8 new track that are sure to be another huge progressive psychedelic blast! Ozric Tentacles are, simply put, legends of the UK underground scene. One of the most influential bands to emerge from the UK’s festival scene, the Ozrics layer ambient and ethereal landscapes with freeform dub trips, incredible rave grooves and psychedelic progressive rock. It’s an open exploration of music and the soul. For over 25 years, the Ozrics have experienced the vicissitudes of the rock and roll life. The band has flourished through a number of line-up changes, spawned several side projects (including Eat Static and Nodens Ictus), created their own record labels (Dovetail & Stretchy), put out close to 25 albums, scored a hit record and sold over a million albums world-wide. And yet, the basic motivation behind the band’s existence has never wavered. A campfire at the Stonehenge free festival in 1983 witnessed the birth of Ozric Tentacles. It was there that synth player Joie Hinton, stumbled upon the Wynne brother’s Ed (guitar) and Roly (bass), performing in a band known at the time as Bolshem People, along with drummer Nick ‚Tig‘ Van Gelder (Jamiroquai). From that very first jam session, a musical compatibility was evoked that has since been a trademark of the Ozric Tentacles. It’s a signature blend of hippy aesthetics and raver electronics with spiralling guitars, textured waves of keyboards & midi samplers, and super-groovy bass and drum rhythms. The band will be on tour promoting the album throughout 2009.
