Ja! jpc hat aktuell drei oder vier Mosaic Boxen zum attraktiven Kurs, aber ich kann mich wegen der optischen Aufmachung nicht recht durchringen. Anyway, „Study In Brown“ ist verdammt toll!

PAAL NILSSEN-LOVE – News From The Junk Yard (PNL, 2015)
Ein weiteres Solo-Album von Paal Nilssen-Love, einem der besten aktiven Schlagzeuger momentan. Das Album erreicht zwar nicht ganz das Niveau von „Cut And Bleed“, ist aber dennoch sehr hörenswert.

Paul Bley – If We May (Steeplechase, 1994) | Ein Set von Standards mit Jay Anderson (b) und Adam Nussbaum (d), aufgenommen im April 1993. Nur das Titelstück stammt aus Bleys Feder, aber die anderen Songs sind interessant gewählt, so sind „Don’t Explain“, „Goodbey“ und „Indian Summer“ zu hören, zudem zweimal Jerome Kern – mit dem zupackenden Opener „Long Ago and Far Away“ und mit dem Bebop-Favoriten „All the Things You Are“, sowie zum Ausklang Charlie Parkers Blues „Confirmation“.

Paul Bley – Reality Check (Steeplechase, 1996) | ein ausnehmend hässliches Cover mal wieder (das Photo stammt wie meist bei Steeplechase von Label-Chef Nils Winther, der die Kamera besser seiner Katze oder seinem Hund in die Pfoten gedrückt hätte), eine Session vom Oktober 1994 mit Jay Anderson (b) und Victor Lewis (d), diesmal bis auf „I Surrender Dear“ wieder alles Originals von Bley.

Paul Bley – Notes on Ornette (Steeplechase, 1998) | Nochmal Paul Bley im Trio auf Steeplechase, wieder mit Jay Anderson (b), diesmal aber mit Jeff Hirschfield (d), aufgenommen im Herbst 1997. Das Programm besteht bis auf Bleys Closer „AARP“ gänzlich aus Stücken von Ornette Coleman, darunter „Turnaround“, „When Will the Blues Leave“, „Rejoicing“ etc. Bley war ja bekanntlich der allererste, der die Message von Coleman verstand – aber ganz so zwingend wie die Hommagen an Carla und Annette ist diese Kombination zumal nach vier Jahrzehnten nicht mehr, finde ich. Dennoch ein sehr gutes Album.
