Sicherlich nicht das großartigste Album ever, aber ich kenne es so ein bißchen aus den 90ern, als ich auch New Jack Swing ab und zu gehört habe. Kendrick Lamar ist wohl Fan von Janet und deswegen habe ich es mir auch geholt, als der „Retro-Boom“ gerade voll im Gang war vor ein paar Jahren. Und aus irgendeinem Grund ist diese Kultur oder Zeit (90er) auch Nährstoff für kreative Köpfe in diversen Bereichen (Musik, Fashion, Fotografie…). Ich müsste mal schauen, ob es in eine persönliche 93er-Liste passen würde…

2014 bricht in die 90er Trademarks. Umwerfendes Songwriting, mein liebstes Mixtape der letzten Jahre. In einer gerechten Welt würde Dillon, dieser junge König der Flows, eine wirkliche Rolle spielen, nicht nur als Sido Featuregast. Für 2017 wünsche ich mir ein Debutalbum.

Sicherlich nicht Mos Defs bestes Album, aber so schlecht wie die Blogosphäre raunt („a stain on Black Star’s legacy“), ist es auch nicht. Beys gemurmelte Ad-lib-Rhymes entwickeln mit der Zeit und wiederholtem Hören eine ganz eigene Anziehungskraft.
