WerbungBin ehrlich gesagt auf alle drei bisher nur so mässig gespannt … für die ganzen Superlative sind das jetzt echt nicht die grossen Überraschungen. Es gibt schon 350 Chet Baker-Releases mit späten Aufnahmen aus Europa, von Ayler kennt man die Hälfte (? hab noch nicht gelesen/verglichen) schon, und von Mingus gibt es auch schon so einiges, aber diese späten Sachen sind halt immer schon mit einem Generalvorbehalt versehen (obwohl, das Carnegie Hall-Konzert in der kompletten Fassung fand ich schon eine tolle Überraschung, aber das ist dann halt nicht einfach ein Gig auf einer endlosen, anstrengenden Tour durch fremde Lande sondern ein grosses Event in einer heiligen Halle zuhause, da gehe ich schon davon aus, dass das für die Musikern verpflichtender ist, anspornender, und dass das halt gerade einen Unterschied macht).

Ehrlich gesagt interessiert micht Mingus und Ayler gar nicht …. aber bei Chet Baker Trio sind 1,5 CD`s in der Formation mit Michel Graillier + Riccardo Del Fra, welche wohl neben Philip Catherine + Jean-Louis Rassinfosse die stärkste dieser Dekade war …. hmmmmh, mal sehen ….

Valentin)ja… bei Mingus wart ich wohl noch, bis ich die Detroit Box zu Ende gehoert hab, bevor ich aktiv werd… bei Baker werd ich wohl zuschlagen muessen wegen Michel Graillier… und immerhin ist es durch Dominique Lemerle eine Besetzung mit einem guten Bassisten, die bislang nicht dokumentiert ist… und bei Ayler fehlt ist die alte Doppelcd schon lange auf der Einkaufsliste, da wart ich mal ab, was so geschrieben wird… ja, keins der drei scheint ein totales „must have“ zu sein (so wie die neue A Love Supreme), aber es ist schon auch alles drei prinzipiell interessant

.Ich kaufe am Ende eh alle drei … gab’s von Ayler mal eine Doppel-CD? Ich hab die eine Hälfte auf Water und die zweite auf ESP-Disk‘ – jedenfalls separat. Und der grössere Teil der letzten (Musik-)CD der „Holy Ghost“-Box kommt auch noch von dort, oder? So viel Neue ist da dann wohl nicht dabei.

Featuring the classic KTG frontline of Marc Charig, Nick Evans and Elton Dean with rhythm section appearances by British jazz luminaries Jeff Clyne, Trevor Tomkins, Roy Babbington and Bryan Spring.
These six previously unreleased live studio tracks were recorded for broadcast purposes in January and August of 1970, between the group’s two now seminal British jazz/rock releases for the Polydor and Vertigo labels respectively, 1969’s ‘You Are Here… I Am There’ and 1971’s ‘Dedicated to You but You Weren’t Listening’.
Three of the compositions presented here (Thoughts To Geoff, Five After Dawn, Green & Orange Night Park) would be recorded again for ‘Dedicated To You…’ The remaining two numbers have never been issued in any form, and show the group in a fascinating developmental period between albums. ‘Thoughts To Geoff’ from the January 1970 session in particular is significantly different to its later album counterpart. It’s an amazing achievement that such harmonically and emotionally mature, rich and progressive pieces were conceived by someone so young and relatively new to the scene. The second session contained in this release was allegedly recorded on Keith’s 23rd birthday.
During conversations with Julie Tippetts for the making of this album, she revealed that she had originally written vocal parts for the title track ‘How Long This Time?’ However, sadly the complete version was apparently only aired live once, in 1970, and there are currently no known recordings of the performance.
Tracks 1-3 represent the only known recordings of the band with drummer Trevor Tomkins, who had been a long-standing member of the Don Rendell Ian Carr Quintet until their breakup only months before the January 1970 KTG session.
The original audio sources for this release were unfortunately in poor shape and required significant restoration to bring them up to a listenable standard. We hope though that the results justify the efforts and that whilst they will never be perfect, these previously lost historic performances can now be properly appreciated, and provide a new insight into the group during a year when they were otherwise frustratingly under-recorded.
