NEW YORK, Jan 23, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Legacy Recordings is launching a year- long celebration of Willie Nelson’s 75th birthday (April 30th) with the release of ONE HELL OF A RIDE, a monumental 4-CD, 100-song retrospective covering all phases of Nelson’s 50-plus years of barrier-breaking pop and country music. The set arrives in stores April 1st, 2008, on Columbia/Legacy, a division of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.
ONE HELL OF A RIDE makes available, for the first time in any collection, recordings and performances drawn from the entire range, and all record labels, of Willie Nelson’s mythic career.
With a whopping 100 selections in all, the box set includes rare early recordings — including „When I’ve Sang My Last Hillbilly Song,“ recorded late 1954/early 1955 at KBOP Studio in Pleasanton, Texas, and „No Place For Me,“ recorded in 1957 in Portland, Oregon, for Willie Nelson Records. Also featured are Willie’s own early 1960s performances of „Night Life,“ „Funny How Time Slips Away“ and „Crazy,“ the much-covered songs that broke down the walls between Tin Pan Alley and country music; his mid-1960s recordings for RCA Victor when he forged his own signature blend of country-rock with currents of jazz, swing and deep folk influences; his 1970s invention of „outlaw country“ with the multi-platinum country/pop crossover blockbuster „Red Headed Stranger; his historic collaborations with Waylon Jennings, Chet Atkins, Roger Miller, Ray Price, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Julio Iglesias, and many more; and a generous selection of Willie’s classic covers including his signature interpretations of Fred Neil’s „Everybody’s Talkin‘,“ Fred Rose’s „Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain,“ Townes Van Zandt’s „Pancho & Lefty,“ Hoagy Carmichael’s „Stardust“ and „Georgia On My Mind,“ and others.
The deluxe 4-CD box set includes liner notes by Joe Nick Patoski, who has written about Willie Nelson over the past thirty five years for Texas Monthly, Rolling Stone, Country Music, No Depression, and other publications. Patoski’s biography, Willie Nelson: An Epic Life, is published this spring by Little, Brown.
In addition to ONE HELL OF RIDE, Legacy Recordings will celebrate Willie’s
75th with the release of #1s, a single disk collection of Willie’s #1 country and pop hits, arriving in stores April 29th. Additional Willie Nelson projects will be announced in the coming months.

Rhino is going to present the original album as disc one and then have a bonus disc with the alternate album mixes, unissued backing tracks and other things Andrew has dug up. Just wait till you hear their impromptu version of „Wooly Bully“ from the session for „The Red Telephone.“
Andrew also found the song left off the album called „Wonder People“ in a vintage Bruce Botnick ’67 stereo mix that had some extra edits and vocal effects, different from the bonus 1970’s remix of the song used on the older Rhino CD. Keep your old CD if you want the later mix I guess..
At any rate, the issued stereo album mix will be on disc one mastered by Rhino in-house and on disc two will be the entire 1970’s remix of the FOREVER CHANGES album and I (Steve Hoffman) was thrilled to be able to remaster this disc two remix version for this project. It sounds great and is really a unique window „in“ to how it must have sounded in the studio during playback of the album.

Wunderbar! Du sprichst mir aus der Seele auf Deiner Seite. Auch ich zähle mich zu den Bekloppten, für die eine schöne Verpackung und div. Extras das Salz in der Suppe bzw. die Sahne auf dem Kuchen sind. Deswegen bin ich auch kein MP3 oder WAV (?) oder so Typ. Wir haben ja auch ein großes Vorbild bzw. einen Bruder im Geiste: John Peel. Der Mann wusste Bescheid – und wir folgen gerne.
Vor einiger Zeit habe ich die Japan Mini LP Promo Box-Sets für mich entdeckt. Wunderschöne Replicas der Original-Cover in tollen Boxen mit Obi und allem drum und dran. Toll, aber auch teuer. Morgen nehme ich die neueste Anschaffung in Empfang. Eine der letzten Exemplare der O.V. Wright 5CD + 1 Interview CD-Box aus Japan. Freue mich schon. Neben vielen, vielen anderen Sachen sammel ich auch noch Bootlegs und Bootleg Box-Sets, die oft eine schönere Aufmachung haben, als reguläre Releases. Aber das ist eine andere Geschichte.

Auf die Japan Mini LP Sets habe ich bisher verzichtet. Es gibt bestimmte Märkte (v.a. den japanischen), von denen ich mich tunlichst fernhalte.
Mein Geldbeutel würde es nicht überleben. :)--

In June some tempting Stephen Stills releases- ‚Live At Shepherds Bush Empire‘ (CD) and ‚Manassas III‘ (?). There’s also a raft of ‚Woodstock‘ expanded reissues in the form of a 3 CD set and enhanced DVD set. In July Crosby Stills & Nash’s ‚Allies‘ should be out again and there are remastered & expanded versions of the MC5’s ‚Back In The USA‘, ‚High Time‘ and ‚Kick Out The Jams‘. 2 CD Collector’s Editions of Rod Stewart’s ‚Atlantic Crossing‘ and ‚A Night On The Town‘ and the 4 CD ‚Storyteller‘ (The Complete Anthology 1964-1990) are also due in the early summer. Remastered versions and special editions with DVDs of the following Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds albums: ‚The First Born Is Dead‘, ‚From Her To Eternity‘, ‚Kicking Against The Pricks‘ and ‚Your Funeral… My Trial‘ are due at the end of March. More details on all these releases as they emerge….oh, and, of course, Neil Young’s Archives…currently slated for May 4th.
