Delia macht knappe 3 Minuten länger, bei mir sind es dann knappe 4 Minuten und Rolf hat es auf gut 5 Minuten gebracht, so dass wir heute erst gegen 23:12 Uhr zum Ende kommen. Ich rechne mit Eurem Durchhaltevermögen.

One of the writers, Jeff Barry, has commented on these lines:
Actually, there was a big discussion about whether it should be “Met him on a Monday and my heart stood still” or “Met him on a Sunday and my heart stood still.” Sunday seems like the day to meet someone and fall in love. But Monday sounds better;(…) So “Met him on a Monday” is where it is and everyone thinks it’s Sunday, but it’s Monday. It’s the only good thing that’s ever happened on a Monday.--

The song was originally going to be titled “Cindy Lou”, named after Holly’s baby niece Cindy and his sister Patricia Lou, but Crickets drummer Jerry Allison asked Holly to change the name to impress his then-girlfriend Peggy Sue Gerron.
Holly obliged, but when the recording engineer threatened to change the song back to “Cindy Lou” if Allison didn’t stop making mistakes, he took a few moments to go through a drumming exercise. Holly liked the feel of Allison‘ drum exercise, changed his guitar licks to better fit with it, and that became the new beat for the song.
