Catfish Haven – Crazy for leaving
Sehr gut.
Life is Art. Art is Life. But have you met my wife? (Robert Forster)
Locas in Love
When was the band formed?
Stefanie (plays bass, sings & does the artwork) and me, Björn (guitar, singing) started the band as a duo in 2001 and played very quietly because I was a little bored with my rock band back then and felt a little stuck. So our goal was being as far away from rock songs as possible. I’ll cut the story a little short: we added a drummer, then Niklas as a guitarist (he’s also taken up production duties), changed drummers now & then to settle with Maurizio in 2004 and have been through very many happy & some tough moments. The band that we are now started out recording & touring in2004. And on the way we gradually allowed loudness and rock to be allowed as team members again.
Why the name?
Basically it’s the name of a comic series by Los Bros Hernandez. Stefanie and me are veeery fond of comics and especially the Hernandez bros. There are no limits to what they do, their art is an ever-growing and ever-changing universe without restrictions and it’s growing more and more brillant, interesting and impressive. We feel that’s the way the band wants & tries to approach playing music and being a band in general. Also it’s a great name, we love the sound of it and the fact that it’s half Spanish, half English and we sing in German most of the time. Makes sense to us. (The fact that the name actually means ‚crazy girls in love‘ has brought us many, many stupid introductions on stage and even more stupid jokes in articles and interviews… „they are crazy – they are lovers – they are crazy lovers… pleeeease welcome: LOCAS IN LOVE“ – urgh.)
What have you released?
Between November 2001 and November 2002 we released 3 EPs on different indie labels, one 7″ single in 2003, our first album in 2004, another EP in May 2006 and our second album (completely self-produced) which will also mark our major label debut will be out December 2006.
What are your influences?
Really everything (like it is with almost everybody)… we love VelvetUnderground, My Bloody Valentine, The Fall, Decemberists, Nick Drake, Lambchop, Byrds, Kinks, Beatles, Pulp, Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Okkervil River, Long Winters, Pixies, Eels, Ramones, Leonard Cohen, Sonic Youth… we love melodies as well as noise, pretty little folky pop songs as well as ten minute feedback orgies. We were told that a special quality of our band is the feeling of momentarily being ‚lost in music‘.
Have the albums been released just in germany or worldwide?
Sadly they’ve only been available widely in germany, austria and switzerland. It’s a little hard for us because of the german lyrics. but myspace has really opened up something for us. A lot of people from pretty much everywhere (mostly girls & women from the usa) listen toour songs and relate to them despite the language thing.we’re toying with the idea of releasing our new album as an international version with english lyrics if we can find someone who’s up for it (and if it eventually sounds as cool as it does in our heads). But for a start, we’re more than psyched that we were invited to play the popfest and some more shows.
Add whatever you feel like mentioning.
Hm… we’re also totally excited to be able to mix our new album in America and with Peter Katis. When we got the invitation to the Popfest we were like: ok, let’s do this. And what else is there we’d like to do once we’re over? Meeting people, buying comics, visiting boston and new york city, hunting vintage guitars and equipment… and why not mix the album over there. So we looked on album sleeves which record was done where and Peter’s studio is not far from the Popfest. We love the stuff he did withThe National and Clem Snide, called him up, and very smoothly this became the second half of our big adventure field trip. As of now we still can’t believe that we are really going to do this. It’s very unusual for German bands (besides Kraftwerk & Rammstein) to ever get out of the country.

Christopher O’Riley spielt Radiohead.
Life is Art. Art is Life. But have you met my wife? (Robert Forster)
Fixed this link: here through Largehearted Boy’s goodness is No Children – the version from San Francisco back in June, when I was too sick to speak above a mid-whisper and the amazing crowd picked up the slack. This was, hands down, the most fun I have ever had with a high fever, and I think I speak for both Peter and myself when I say that, forty years from now, we will spend many an afternoon boring our friends & caretakers in the retirement home with stories about this performance. San Francisco, take a bow, ‚cause you guys nailed this one.

„(…) They claim such classic Brit-pop songwriters Ray Davies and Rod Argent as influences, and their four-track stylings, carefree lyrical associations and bookish sensibilities also bring to mind Ben Lee, Lou Barlow, Stephen Malkmus, and Jonathan Richman. It takes more than cleverness to write a song about a pirate that doesn’t sound like a Broadway musical, or to sing a travelogue of an Asian city that doesn’t descend into kitsch. But Princeton does it well — with organs, acoustic guitar, and sweet, youthfully knowing vocals.(…)“, heißt es auf 3hive.com.

Danke.
Exactly ? the planet / Lupen Crook
Lupen Crook“A rubbish song if I’m honest though this first and only performance has something ’nice‘ about the pathetic desperation of the writer that wrote it, I’d layered it with out of tune vocals and guitar noodles to try and make it a bit better, it doesn’t really work but then you never know if don’t try.“
Urban Fox Hunting / Lupen Crook
Lupen Crook“Recorded live and slightly drunk in my pigeon infested attic room, keyboards put on afterwards, I really like the discordant keys and bad sound. It’s about wanting to be involved when your alone and wanting to be alone when your involved. Such is life.“
