Die Dinger waren einfach wieder mal so billig zu haben, mein Gedächtnis hatte noch nicht mal zu rattern begonnen da hatte meine Kreditkarte schon die Überweisung getätigt :roll:--

Ich bin jetzt grad an „Mindif“ – sehr schön! Und auch wenn Ben Riley selbst ein toller Drummer ist (er spielt auf „Water from…“ und „No Fear, No Die“ – so ist Billy Higgins doch herausragend! Einzig schade ist, dass Carlos Ward fehlt (Craig Handy übernimmt die Flöte, aber das brennende Altsax fehlt mir ein wenig).
„African Rivers“ find ich seit einer Ewigkeit eins der allerschönsten Ibrahim-Alben. Allein Howard Johnson (der nicht bloss Tuba und Barisax sondern auch mal noch Kornett spielt – der kann wirklich alles!) und John Stubblefield machen es zu einem Ereignis!
Als Ergänzung würd ich Dir noch „Water from an Ancient Well“ empfehlen, das ist wohl auch eins der allerschönsten Ibrahim-Alben! Damit hättest Du dann eine sehr schöne Auswahl dieser Zeit und der ursprünglichen Ekaya-Bands (obwohl „Mindif“ ja ohne drittes Sax und mit mehr zugewandten Orten – Benny Powell, Billy Higgins – kein richtiges Ekaya-Album ist).
„Mantra Mode“ ist leider (das wusste ich schon) nicht die grosse Offenbarung, die ich mir von einem 90er-Album mit Basil „Mannenberg“ Coetzee und Robbie Jansen erhofft hatte, aber ich muss es einfach haben, denn Aufnahmen der beiden sind ja nicht grad leicht zu kriegen!--

Wilson Pickett – Original Album SeriesAlles ausser Lee von den ganz krassen Ausverkäufen, die amazon.fr vor zwei Wochen laufen hatte… dachte, wenn die guten Jungs von Rank die „Onecept“ auf Vinyl bringen ist die CD ein paar läppische Eurozlotys wert und ich kann dem Herrn Ware mal wieder eine Chance geben (ebenso dem Herrn Parker, auch keinem meiner besten Freunde bisher).
Die Peggy Lee Box wurde übrigens soweit ich weiss zumindest in den USA kürzlich aus dem Sortiment gestrichen (hab mir ein gut erhaltenes günstiges Secondhand-Exemplar gekauft). Das ganze kommt in einer festen Papp-Box mit einem Jumbo-Case sowie einem Extra-Booklet mit einem sehr ausführlichen Essay von Gene Lees und einigen Fotos (über die so schöne Zitate wie der folgende Erguss eines gewissen Mr. Leonard Feather gedruckt sind: „If you don’t get a genuine thrill listening to Peggy Lee — Jack, you must be dead.“)
