gypsy-tail-windEinverstanden, „ekstatisch“ ist ein viel besseres Wort. Aber dessen ungeachtet kommt Green aus dem R & B und da geht es schon auf ganz andere Art und Weise zur Sache als in der Musik von Montgomery. Innerhalb des Hard Bop sind Green und Montgomery wohl sowas wie Gegenpole, Extrempositionen – jedenfalls empfinde ich das so.
Interessanter Gedanke, muss ich mal drüber nachdenken!

Die „Partner-VÖ“ zur Shaw oben … Cover ist leider so schnell gemacht wie manches bei RLR, Lonehill und Konsorten, aber das ist Wurst, die ganze Packung wird wie üblich gut sein, denke ich.

STAN TRACEY – ALONE & TOGETHER W/ MIKE OSBORNE

Two rare performances from the same evening of music in 1974 – one issued briefly on the album Stan Tracey Alone, one appearing here for the first time ever! CD1 features that Tracey album – an extended solo improvisation titled „Eighty One Plus One“, which has Stan really stretching out at this key point in his career – that moment when he’d moved past his more angular, Monkish modes of the 60s – into territory that was much freer, and even more captivating – as Tracey always plays with this sense of timing that holds things together, even as his hands are soaring to the farther reaches of the piano! CD 2 features a duet with alto saxophonist Mike Osborne – also from the same night, and as one extended improvisation titled „Two Part Intention“ – which has Tracey building up these layers of sound on piano, while Osborne glides freely over the top in a style that’s both modern and soulful at the same time. Great stuff – and a much-needed example of this key moment in British jazz!

Gordon Beck – Jubliation! Trios, Quartets and Septets in Session 1964-1984
Die ist gestern gekommen – sieht gut aus, Simon Spillett hat einen sehr ausführlichen Text über Gordon Beck beigesteuert (am Ende geht es auch noch konkret um die Musik, ich guckte dort schon rein, weil die Angaben auf den Papphüllen in Sachen Line-Ups etwas dämlich gedruckt sind, man meint zweimal, die Line-Ups seien nicht bekannt, aber gemäss Booklet sind sie es durchaus). Ich melde mich allenfalls wieder, wenn ich zu hören begonnen habe (das Reissue von „Gyroscope“ kam übrigens im selben Paket), falls @soulpope mir nicht zuvorkommt.
Ach ja, der Titel … es gibt auch Solos (p, elp, bamboo fl) und ein Quintett (das Quartett mit Frank Ricotti, der im Septett auch mit tat, beim Quartett aber wohl Gast war).
