Keine Ahnung … bisher liegt aus dem ersten Bündel die Chet Baker hier – ungehört.

Für mich ist die Griffin/Davis sicher ein Muss, egal wie gut sie am Ende ist … Hubbard wird wohl auch angeschafft, Elvin Jones und Dizzy Gillespie vielleicht auch, und auf jeden Fall Woody Shaw. Aber ob irgendwas davon ein Must-Have ist, weiss ich wirklich (noch) nicht)

Aus meiner Erinnerung in Velden 1980 bereits mit Dave Schnitter ….

Das ist wohl auch bloss ein weiteres Dime-Repositorium (wie meine obigen Infos) – abwarten, bis die CD draussen ist, an sich müssten dahinter ja Leute stecken, die sowas verifizieren könnten (Presseberichte aus Hamburg 1979 bzw. eben 1980). Denke das Datum müsste via Leon Thomas zu bestätigen sein, aber im Netz fand ich auf die Schnelle nichts (und habe bisher keinen Annlass, am versammelten Dime-Wissen zu zweifeln, bloss weil auf einem Cover was anderes steht).

Ich habe die Mosaic Box von Shaw Gypsy und das ist sehr spritzige Musik. Aus der Zeit sind sicher die Aufnahmen intressant. Er hat hier 1987 auch in Stuttgart noch Studioaufnahmen gemacht.

Fresh Sound Records

In June 1966, invited by the shrewd American producer and author Ross Russell, Martial Solal traveled to Los Angeles to record these forgotten and unreleased solo piano sessions. Russell, who had launched the legendary label Dial Records back in 1946 to record Charlie Parker, had spent several years away from the jazz scene after shutting Dial down in 1949. When he decided to return to the jazz record business, he organized a series of recordings at Glendale’s Whitney Studio, which had a wonderful Steinway. Unfortunately, Russell’s new project didn’t come to fruition, and so Solal’s recordings never saw the light.

Now we can finally hear them in two CD volumes. They show Martial Solal at his best, his incontestable talent, dazzling virtuosity and invention, but also his good taste and sense of humor in the execution. The originality of his conception, paired with his elegant control and technique, put him on a par with the great American pianists.

Gerade zufällig entdeckt – hatte nicht mitgekriegt, dass es da doch noch mal was neues gab. Soweit ich sehen kann leider nur diese eine CD, womit die Reihe bei fünf Veröffentlichungen steht.

Es handelt sich also um einen Mitschnitt der zweiten Tour von Bud Shank/Bob Cooper, von der Lonehill auf vier CDs (drei Volumen, 1957 und 1958) Mitschnitte herausgebracht hat. Hamburg ist da auf Vol. 1 drauf, aber ohne Tony Scott und kaum von so nahe an der Quelle. Da das Label diese CD als erste Veröffentlichung anpreist, wurde die Vorinstanz dann wohl in der Zwischenzeit beim NDR abgewickelt, aber das Layout übernommen – keine Ahnung, aber das erklärt dann wohl, dass nach den ersten vier CDs von 2013 nichts mehr folgte.

Interessant, thnx …. hab den Lonhillschmus nicht also ist dies nun eine veritable Möglichkeit …..
