ich weiss nicht, warum die Dolphy Series „Dolphy“ heisst, aber das scheint einfach ein Oberbegriff für die Serie von Strata East Alben zu sein, die Clifford Jordan produziert hat (s. hier), und vermute dass es sich wirklich um die genannte Session handelt mit 2 Solo und 4 Quartet Tracks (Nessa hat auf .org die drei anderen Musiker auch nochmal genannt gehabt)).

Die Aristokratentochter ist eine Ikone der französischen 68er und war mit Wilen verheiratet.
Fin 1968, en effet, j’ai quitté Paris et la profession de mannequin pour voyager en Afrique avec mon compagnon, Barney Wilen, musicien de jazz. Une aventure fantastique. A notre retour, Barney a sorti un disque mêlant jazz et musique africaine. Moi, je chantais et j’écrivais les paroles. Après un autre séjour au Niger, nous nous sommes installés à Monaco.

As a singer, Nat ‘King’ Cole had a voice that enthralled audiences around the world for more than two decades and earned him success in the pop charts with a string of hit singles and albums on Capitol Records. What has remained underappreciated though, certainly among popular music fans, is that Nat was also an incredible jazz musician. His dexterity at the piano put him at the top of the critics’ and readers’ polls of magazines such as DownBeat who inducted him, posthumously, into the DownBeat Hall of Fame.
Nat’s incredible phrasing, timing and perfect pitch, were the very cornerstones of a vocal style born out of his prowess as a jazz musician.
On this rare and recently discovered concert recording from the archives of Swiss Radio, the balance between Nat’s pop and jazz output can be said to have been redressed. Jazz fans aplenty will be enthralled to hear the generous portions of Nat’s piano playing, and then equally enthralled by the added bonus of an all-star Quincy Jones Big Band in attendance. Whether in full-flight with the big band hanging on his coattails or in the intimacy of his trio, the performances captured on this CD are absolute treasures to be heard and appreciated, time and time again.

The live concerts at the radio studio in Zurich started in 1969 and took place regularly until 1984 and documented the intense situation in Jazz in Switzerland in this period.

Amazon kündigt seit neustem eine Uptown-CD mit Aufnahmen von Lester Young aus dem Bostoner Hi-Hat an – aufgenommen 1950 mit Jesse Drakes (t), Kenny Drew (p), Joe Schulman (b) und Connie Kay (d) sowie 1953 mit Horace Silver (auf dem Cover zu sehen) am Klavier und Franklin Skeete (b) anstelle von Drew und Schulman.
Grossartige Neuigkeiten – zumal 1950 eins der besten Jahre des späten Pres war!
