@jan_jan: Nein, Syd Barrett kenne ich seit vielen Jahren, habe u.a. mehrere Biographien gelesen. Allerdings war ich lange in erster Linie von ihm als Person fasziniert, habe in erster Linie seinen Beitrag zu Pink Floyd geschätzt, und zu den Solo-Alben auch erst sehr spät (vor ca. einem Jahr) entgültig Zugang gefunden. „Anlässlich“ seines Todes (und des RS-Artikels) habe ich mich aber insgesamt wieder intensiver mit seinem Werk beschäftigt.

Werbungtina toledo@firecracker: „Greetings From L.A.“ ist vielleicht nicht seine beste, aber eben meine liebste (von denen die ich gut kenne – „Starsailor“ und „Lorca“ fehlen noch in der Sammlung). Großartig finde ich auf der Platte die Funk/Soul-Elemente, gepaart mit den größtenteils spöttisch-bitteren Lyrics. Das arrangementtechnisch reduziertere, wenn auch etwas schwerer zugängliche „Happy Sad“ gefällt mir auch sehr gut, aber „Greetings…“ hat für mich seine beste Vocal-Performance und mit z.B. „Get On Top“ oder „Get It Right“ ein paar seiner besten Kompositionen überhaupt. Mein Einstieg bei Tim Buckley und das Album, welches ich immer noch am häufigsten auflege.
weiß auch nicht, „welches seine beste ist“, ist mir auch egal, aber okay, gerade das, was dir an der „greetings from l.a.“ gefällt, gefällt mir nicht an ihr. mir ist einfach der jazz/folk-orientierte/poetische/introspektive tim buckley mit seinen etwas zerbrechlich anmutenden songs, die irgendwie etwas magisches an sich haben, sehr viel lieber.
irgendwie hört sich die „greetings“ für mich eher wie ein kompromiss an, da die vorigen alben alle kommerziell erfolglos blieben. but that’s my opinion anyways.--

Schöne Liste, firecracker! Daraus besitze und schätze ich immerhin 64 %. Mir war bisher gar nicht bewusst gewesen, dass du die ersten beiden Oasis-Alben (bzw. Oasis generell) so sehr magst. Aber das öde „Puzzles Like You“ vor „Definitely Maybe“, und vor allem vor „Revolver“, geht nun sowas von gar nicht!;-) Und wo ist „Psychocandy“? So viel schwächer als „Darklands“?

…aber was machte denn Norah Jones nur zweidrei Zähler hinter Beggars Banquet und Revolver und meilenweit vor „I´m Wide Awake“ ?!
Da ist ne Story fällig, in der möglichst Worte wie Urlaubsflirt, Strandpiano und Batida de Coco vorkommen sollten!Zum etwas ernsteren Teil meines Beitrags:
Interessant und auffällig, dass Coltrane´s „Love Supreme“ bei Dir so weit vorne auftaucht, obwohl Jazz ansonsten ja keine Rolle in Deiner Top 100 spielt. Das zeigt wohl, dass das eines jener Alben ist, das über alle Genregrenzen eine tiefe Faszination ausstrahlt (die sich mir allerdings mangels ausreichender Beschäftigung noch nicht gänzlich erschlossen hat, eines meiner potentiellen Lieblingsalben, ca. 2015).Sympathisch schließlich, dass Dando’s „Baby I´m Bored“ weit vorne liegt (nicht nur, weil es damit dann doch noch ein Album mit Howe Gelb-Beteiligung in Deine Liste geschafft hat). Immer schon, oder jüngst durch den Eindruck von Dando´s stählernen Muskelpaketen wieder nach vorne gerückt?;-)

@pipe-bowl: Klasse, dieses tolle Album so weit vorne zu sehen. Allerdings hat es bei mir in den letzten Jahren ein wenig verloren; ich halte inzwischen das Debut „Crocodiles“ für das beste Bunnymen-Album, welches bei Dir in den Top100 überhaupt nicht vorkommt. Hältst Du es für soviel schwächer als „Heaven“?

Hach, Pipe-Bowl, ich hab’s Dir ja schon mal gesagt: Wir haben sehr ähnliche musikalische Vorlieben. Dadurch bin ich motiviert, die Sachen, die ich aus Deiner Liste noch nicht kenne, mir schleunigst zu Gemüte zu führen, besonders die Nr. 3.
„Slaid Cleaves“ (Nr. 17) kenne ich nicht. Welche Musikrichtung ist das?--
@Bauer Ewald: Ja, eine ganze Klasse schwächer. Aber immer noch ein gutes Debut-Album (****). Dazwischen liegt bei mir in jedem Fall noch „Ocean rain“ (****1/2).
Aber „Heaven up here“ ist unantastbar, weil es mir eine einmalige Atmosphäre vermittelt. Die Songs haben einerseits einen wunderbaren Drive, andererseits haben sie etwas Sphärisch-Schwebendes. Kaum zu beschreiben. Halt eine wunderbare klangliche Grundstimmung und dazu McCulloch’s herrlich weinerliche Stimme. Und dann das Cover. Unerreicht.
