Zwei interessante Bob-Dylan-Veranstaltungen im Raum Wien:

A) Buchpräsentation: „Refractions of Bob Dylan – Cultural Appropriations of an American Icon“

Refractions of Bob Dylan collects essays which investigate the routes of Bob Dylan’s cultural appropriations. – http://bibliothek.univie.ac.at/events/011679.html

Bob Dylan’s cultural production in the second half of the twentieth century, his songs, but also his changing images and self-fashionings have informed and productively re/shaped certain images of America from outside and within. The collection looks at how Dylan has been used and interpreted by others, and how his work has been reworked into cultural expressions in culturally and regionally divergent spaces. Additionally, a number of essays look at what Dylan has appropriated and incorporated in his own work, focusing on questions of plagiarism, tribute, allusion, love and theft. Some of the essays originate from the Refractions of Bob Dylan conference in Vienna (www.dylanvienna.at) which took place around the 70th birthday of Bob Dylan, and included Dylan experts such as Clinton Heylin, Stephen Scobie, and Michael Gray.

Eugen Banauch, the editor of the volume, and Paul Fagan, one of the contributors, will present the book in the TV Room of the English and American Studies Library on Monday April 25th, 2016 at 4 p.m. (and additionally bring some bottles of sparkling wine).

B) VORTRAG zum 75. Geburtstag von Bob Dylan: Michael Gray: BOB DYLAN’S CUTTING EDGES

Michael Gray is a critic, writer, public speaker & broadcaster recognised as a world authority on the work of Bob Dylan, and as an expert on rock’n’roll history. He also has a special interest in pre-war blues, and in travel. His works include the pioneering first full-length critical study of Dylan’s work Song & Dance Man: The Art of Bob Dylan (1972), which‘s massive third edition Song & Dance Man III – including a 112-page study of Dylan’s use of the blues – was published in December 1999 in the UK and early in 2000 in the US, and the vast Bob Dylan Encyclopedia (2006). His work has been published in Rolling Stone, The Times, Literary Review, Independent, Guardian, Observer, Sunday Times, Independent on Sunday, Sunday Telegraph, Melody Maker, Uncut and more.

Since 2000 he has given over 150 talks at universities, arts festivals, literary festivals, music festivals, theatres, conventions and arts centres including at the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. Michael Gray lives in South-West France.

fictionmasterHier gibt es auch einen RS-Artikel zur ersten Hörprobe vom neuen Album. Das Lied „Melancholy Mood“ gefällt mir überraschend gut. Es hat mehr Schwung als das ganze vorherige Sinatra-Cover-Album in Summe.

Ja, die Hörprobe klingt so gut, dass ich auf das neue Album gespannt bin. Was ich vom „neuen“ „Bob Dylan & Tom Petty“-Album „Across the Borderline (Live)“ nicht behaupten kann. :roll:

Ich kenne einige Bootlegs von 1986er Gemeinschafts-Auftritten. Überwältigend fand ich davon keinen einzigen. Von daher überrascht mich deine Antwort nicht.

ja, das stimmt wirklich; die „Desire“ ist (u.a.) in meinem Auto eingespeichert
oftmals sind wir hunderte/tausende Kilometer gefahren mit diesem Album, das dann andauert wieder von vorne anfing,
stundenlang, wie so eine Gebetstrommel „ooohmmmn“…

Ich bin froh, dass ich Bob Dylan noch einmal live gsehn hab, im Zenith
d.h. ich musste echt gucken, wo ist er denn ? Stand direkt vor ihm aber, wie so oft saß er mit dem Rücken zum Publikum
