I contacted Spex last week, and got a reply today. I was hoping for an answer that would give me all the dates for the (German) 1985 tour, but my reply that I received just made things more confusing and muddled up!
Here’s a little factoid….The Style Council played in Germany more than they played in Wales and Scotland put together. They played Italy, Japan and Germany the most excluding England. It’s interesting, though, because as a collector of ticket stubs from the concerts they played, I see less of them up for sale or people that have them! I’ve got 3 and have only seen three others.
Here is the email I got from Spex….
„I’ve been searching through our Spex archive for the tour dates of Style Council. Unfortunately, we only had tour dates for Germany in the magazine at that time. I found three dates for 1984: October, 29th in Munich – Alabamahalle, October, 31st in Stuttgart – location unkknown and November, 1st in Frankfurt – location unknown. I guess the locations were still unknown at the publishing date of the issue, unfortunately, the following issue is currently missing in our archive.“
This is what I have for the 2nd (German) tour of 1984:
1984 – October 29 – Alabamahalle, Munich, Germany
1984 – November 1 – Robert Schumann Hall, Dusseldorf, Germany
The venue and the date for the Munich date is well known and verified many times over, since it was taped for TV. The date in Dusseldorf I’ve never been able to verify, but it does seem „logical“ to me. Above, they mention about a concert in Stuttgart (URGH!) on the 31st. Being that the 30th and 31st were „off“ days, I suppose it could be possible they did play there in 1984 – or at least another city?
I just wish I could get my hands on the tour itineraries for 1984 and 1985 for all the Style Council European tours!
