Bad news, bad news, I got my box today!
It’s a pity there’s no booklet and not a hint of the mastering credits but the good news is having played Stranded and Country Life is they’ve got this right. Transparency? Check. Dynamics? Check. Clean transients? Check.
I loved the EQ on this set so far a lot and overall it’s the best I’ve heard these albums on cd having gone through Eg/Polydors, Eg/Virgins from the early 90’s and the 1999 HDCD’s.
Recommended for Eelkiller and anyone else wanting a lovely sounding Roxy Music set for a bargain price.

hmmm….hört sich nicht so an.

………..noch einer………..

Got the box today. Nothing to complain about. So great to hear these albums without the treble boost.

I got the box set yesterday, it’s *way* better IMO, but I always felt the ’99 remasters hard, forward, aggressive and really obviously compressed. Just wrong. Whilst I’ve not directly compared them to vinyl yet (I have UK Island vinyl of the first three) the box sounds far more like Roxy on this format to my ears; it’s warm, natural and lacking in harshness, grit or tizz. It just sounds like Roxy Music, for good or bad, and that’s all one can ask. I like it a lot. A huge, huge improvement. Very pleased I bought it – I’ve now got a really nice digital copy of the first three and all the other albums I was missing! Just a shame they missed out Viva.

I listened to it along with the 1999 versions and I think the new remasters are pretty cool. It’s obvious to me on Remake/Remodel, Do The Strand and Every Dream Home where I find them more powerful and more precise as a compact sound. Well, it’s just subjective words, but I feel the sound of a collective band, whereas the 1999 remasters point all the details and, as seductive as it can be for a while, it turns to be a little irritating. Also the new remasters make the voices and drums sound really „real“, I don’t know how to say but I like it. So thank you karmaman!

Now the question is, do I wait for potential Deluxe Editions? I don’t think so, I’m afraid they do it only for the first album and maybe the most successful ones after. It’s just that there are three albums that I don’t like in the box, but for the price, I think it’s ok.

received my box yesterday, have only had the time to listen to both discs of the singles compilation (disc 2 on my Pioneer SACD/CD player, disc 1 on the Rotel-to-Benchmark DAC-to Denon headphones). Initial impressions are excellent ! Crank it up, just gets better.

I’ve owned UK/US/German/Japanese vinyl, various pre-1999 remasters, the 1999 remasters, Thrill Of It All box set, etc. etc. The new mastering is closer to the vinyl versions, and sounds correct to me, especially vs. the 1999 remasters.

I’ve had the 7″ of For Your Pleasure live since it was released – only last night was I able to pick out the Siren’s backup vocals on the track. (wish the entire recording was available, ‚cause, as played on the Siren tour FYP mutated into Diamond Head – with cool visuals projected on the round screen above the stage).

Listening to the box today: It sounds terrific, and a very definitive/clear improvement over the last set of re-masters.
