Zur Qualität des Vinyls muß ich sagen, dass ich von „Universal Sound“ schon ein paar Mal enttäuscht wurde (schludrig/schlampig/lieblos gepreßt). Bei den CDs gabs bisher keinerlei Beanstandungen meinerseits.
„House of Spirit: Mirth“ ist bei mir noch nicht eingetroffen.

Die Scheibe klingt auf jeden Fall gut, aber mit meinem Wissensstand lasse ich eben eher die Finger von Soul Jazz/Universal Sound Reissues… ich hab die Steve Reid CDs (die zuerst auf Mustevic erschienen sind), kann sein, dass sie da einen Deal hatten, aber auch das weiss ich nicht wirklich… auf die Qualität der Remasterings hab ich nie geachtet.
Die schönste Stelle hast Du ja weggelassen:
The Black Jazz label tried to stop the sales of the The Best of Black Jazz Records 1971-1976 album as Universal Sound/Soul Jazz Records apparently only paid the artists involved and not James Hardge Jr., president of Black Jazz. The BJ site originally had a image of a mutilated corpse hanging by its neck with the Soul Jazz name and bootleg warning written over it. That image has been removed, but there’s still a link about the SJRs illegal release of this compilation.

Ob sich das auf alle Tätigkeiten von Soul Jazz erstreckt weiss ich nicht, aber es wirft zumindest ein fragwürdiges Licht auf ihre Jazz-Reissues!
